Re: Did you ever get this fixed?
Because I'm having the same problem. I had gxine working for a while by changing the video driver to "xshm". file/configure/preferences/video/xshm Then I installed mplayer and I think it borked gxine because now I'm back to sound and no video. So frustrating. I've spent several days on th...

Re: Installed mplayer. Now no video again.
Yep! Back to no video. Installed MPlayer-1.0rc2.pet from the forums because I need mplayer to run scripts from my previous Ubuntu install. Maybe because of that, no video again. When I run gxine from the command line, I get: CDROMREADTOCHDR: No medium found WARN: could not retrieve file info for `i...

(Solved) Where can I find libdts.so.0 ?
libdts.so.0 seems to be needed for mplayer, gxine and aqualung. I was getting this error message for mplayer. I deleted everything mplayerish and reinstalled MPlayer-1.0rc2.pet and mplayer works now. Though video in gxine, which was working before I started mucking around with mplayer, is borked. Bu...

6.) Once you have created and edited your samba configuration file, you may want to add Samba users and passwords (they should be the same as on your Windows boxes, if you have them). Note -- even though Puppy operates from the Root user, you can still add Samba users with a simple: smbpasswd -a ge...

Wow! Thanks
Transmission updated to 1.76 Been playing with Puppy on an old laptop for a couple of years. Finally making the move on my desktop. Thanks for this pet. The transmission that comes by default on 4.3.1 is quite clunky. This one looks like the newest version available on other distributions. Fantasti...

Problem solved! (Not for long! See post below.)
I solved this problem by changing gxine's default video driver setting from auto to xshm. If you want to try the same, open gxine and go to File>>Configure>>Preferences>>gui, and change experience level from Beginner to Advanced. After that, you can see gxine's video menu. Open it and change video ...

(Solved) Transmission: How to reduce font size?
I'm trying hard to make Puppy do all I used to do on Ubuntu on this 5 year old machine. So, third question in a row: I'm using the Puppy version of transmission. It works fine but the fonts in the list of files that are downloading are HUGE . Is there a configuration file buried somewhere that contr...

(Solved again) Sound. No video in Gxine.
I give. Been at this for 3 days. Running Puppy 4.3.1 on my AMD Athlon 2900+ processor. Abit KV7-V motherboard. Video in Gxine has never played. I'm getting sound. Tried installing MPlayer-1.0rc2.pet from the forums. After adding some extra libraries, I got sound with Mplayer. But no video. Flash in ...

Re: batterymon: apm not reporting diff between ac and battery
Running Puppy 4.3.1. Previous installs of Puppy ran batterymon just fine. Not so with this new install. Following up on my problem. I finally have everything working fine on Puppy 4.2. This problem had to do with a cheat code I passed when trying to boot into 4.3.1. The laptop wouldn't boot. I wasn...

Re: batterymon: apm not reporting diff between ac and battery
Sorry. What machine? There was a Kernel change between versions so I would say it would have to be a freshly squeezed module if that is what is necessary.
An old Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop, 128 meg ram.

batterymon: apm not reporting diff between ac and battery
Running Puppy 4.3.1. Previous installs of Puppy ran batterymon just fine. Not so with this new install. No matter whether I'm on battery or AC, the following command: awk '{print $7}' /proc/apm | awk -F % '{print $1}' returns -1 which as I understand it, means the laptop is running on AC. Can anyone...

Trying to install PCManfm
I've tried everything suggested in this thread but still can't get pcmanfm to run. Getting this error: pcmanfm.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-glib-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I tried linking libdbus-glib-1.so.2 to libdbus-1.so.3.4.0 but still...

Did you try installing lame?
Just did a new 4.3.1 install of Puppy on an ancient Dell Inspiron 2600. No sound in Flash. No sound playing mp3 radio streams. No sound playing mp3's. Mucked around with alsa mixer per suggestions in the forum. Installed lame, mplayer and the mplayer codecs. Now I have sound all the way around. Hope...

Firedog! The best! Thank you.
A fan boy post here! I love puppy and have been *trying* to use it and promote it *but* all of the browsers on it are just buggy as hell on my Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop with 128 megs of ram. Many of my problems went away when I discovered you just absolutely have to have a swap partition when using ...
