@EdD
@EdD: Nothing to do with any of this (other than I started this thread a few years ago...), but where in Southside Virginia? I am a native Virginian, and my family moved to Chase City from my Charlottesville birthplace when I was in my mid-teens. Blows me away that Google has a data center near Boyd...

Another convert...
An out-of-state buddy called last night and expressed woes over his netbook, which suffered a borked Ubuntu upgrade. I sent him links via email showing him how to get Slacko Puppy running from a USB drive, and showing also how to access his files. He called back this morning and said he liked it so ...

James C nailed it...
I don't know if the issue was a corrupted download, or with copying the .iso file to/from a Windows box... As per James C's pointers, I redownloaded the .iso onto another partition on my Latitude, checked the md5 sum successfully, and then used the Puppy BootFlash installer to make a fresh USB copy....

When I install full from usb. I mount /dev/sda (usb) before running the installer so it can find the files. I am not sure this is your problem though. Forgot to mention I also flag the Puppy Partition as boot also in gparted. I am doing both of these as well. I was able to do a full install of Retr...

Did you verify the md5 and the burn? I did not, but will re-download the .iso and do so later this week when I have time. Thanks for the tip, and for your effort. Weird that the .iso I got installs frugally yet not fully. I also go direct .iso to USB via Unetbootin on my Windows box. The target mac...

Yes - in fact, I tried all three formats using GParted just to eliminate that variable. I successfully completed a full install of Precise 5.7.1 Retro on the same machine, but I would prefer to run Slacko...bigpup wrote:Must ask.

Retro hangs on shutdown Latitude D400
Both full hard drive and frugal USB installs hang at shutdown after X shuts down. Once "Precise Puppy is Shutting Down" appears on the screen, my Latitude D400 (1.4 Pentium M, 1 GB RAM) hangs there until the power button is held down for several seconds. Edit - Looks like this is the same ...

Can't do a full install of Slacko 5.6 4G-NON-PAE (FIXED!)
I tried in vain to use the Universal Installer to do a full install of Slacko 5.6 4G non-PAE on my new (to me) Latitude D400. A frugal install works (I am posting this from it...), as does a Unetbootin USB install. I think there an issue with an install script. The install happens very quickly - qui...

I did attempt to get it going, plus did a little research...
I tried to make it work. I downloaded it, and followed the directions in BK's blog: # unzip QtWeb-elf386.zip # chmod 755 QtWeb # ./QtWeb The last command aborts, so your theory about missing dependencies definitely has some merit. I am no command line whiz by any means but am trying to learn as I go...

As per this:

I've been playing with the latest version - the only hitch I've found so far is with their adblocking. If you turn it on, certain websites won't load.
I wish they used EasyList...
