Asking the wrong questions:

Impossible to shrink an XFS partition so not enough room in / to upgrade Mint 17.3 => Mint 18.

Bum.

That'll teach me.

Forgot to mention this is a full install. I am hoping my hours of tweaking are not lost, though frugal is definitely the way forward in hindsight (more upgradable/secure.)

EDIT: Oh & GRUB2

Borked Install Dumps To Scary CLI

I was installing VLC 1.0.0rc4 .pet under Puppy Lucid 5.2, when it came to installing the required patch package, my system froze so I enforced shutdown. Upon reboot I am greeted with: /sbin/init: Line 16: cut: command not found /sbin/init: Line 17: cut: command not found Previous improper shutdown, ...

Upgrading Puppy Installation To Newer Version

I've seen it said that it is easier to upgrade a frugal install as opposed to full install. It is just a case of replacing some files. Can I point universal installer to correct partition & it'll do the rest :?:

Is it possible to upgrade a full install :?:

Security Full Install Question

I'm used to Xubuntu which has regular security updates. I'm guessing Pup was not really designed to be run as a full install. Rather, booting from DVD each time would be more secure as OS image would be read only. Is Pup secure by nature because so niche? Does a frugal install differ from full secur...

Thanks. Tried clicking on sfs options, nothing happens. Guess it's not functional under full install...

Your other suggestion worked though.
