I just want to point out that you can do a frugal install 'by hand' to the existing ubuntu partition. (i have puppy frugal installed to my /boot partition) No need for puppy to be on its own partition.. ** CAUTION I dont think that - Puppy 4.2.? supports ext4 (yet?) Do NOT make the mistake of trying...

Just a few barks about what i 'see' hanging on irc a bit. (Ok.. so i LIVE on irc, I admit it) New users in the channel seem to be turned off of using puppy more for the following reasons. #1 - lack of full multiuser support (they want each faimly member to have their own account just like other disr...

Yes - I must be overlooking somthing basic here.. what i normally do (testing in a virtualbox system) Boot live cd, partition hard drive. (sda1 ext2, sda2 swap) run the installer, run grub installer, install everything to sda1, then reboot.. It then asks to make a save file, i tell it /dev/sda1. It ...

Ok..so i've totally missed HOW to use a save to entire partion, instead of usng the 'save file' I also understand that vfat cant do the same 'file atributes' as ext2/3 and so forth.. but for a 'save file' type frugal install.. its not really an issue is it. Is ext2/3 going to be faster for a frugal ...

Frugal install to ext2/3 - 'can save to entire partition'
Toying with puppy, and i notice this little comment at the end of the paragraphs on a frugal install. - Can Save to entire partition if Linux F.S. and No need to coexist. So what does this really mean? Ive never noticed any differances in a frugal install to a ext2, compared to a vfat filesystem. It...

Perhaps i missed somthing here.. but the use of the term 'official' seems missleading. If i just manage to cobble together a songbird pet (shouldent be too hard) does that make it official? Im about to go grab the latest and see how it runs on 4.20 Im not sure what a sfs package of it would do.. oth...

What IM clients exist for Puppy?
This has got to be FAQ #1 on the IRC channel. Someone enters by using Xchat and asks... "What a client for XXXX for Puppy" where XXX is MSN, Yahoo, or so on. So how about a Nice List of all the ways one can get to the various IM chats in Puppy linux. Personally I dont use the things. But i...

Bad Habbits Windows Users bring to Linux (not just Puppy)
Starting up a 'top list of things windows users overlook/forget/dont realize' #1 - Linux is Case Sensitive - 'ThisFile.txt' is NOT the same as 'thisfile.txt' and proper Spelling is essential. #2 - This is not windows. Things work differently. #3 - Not everything has an ICON or a menu item. The comma...

Frugal Install Vs. Full Install - Which to use where?
I often see in the IRC room the beginners some how think a Frugal install is some how 'crippled, or limited, or other wise less useable' then a Full install. Perhaps its just because of the terms 'Frugal' and 'Full', I cant think of better terms however. My experience with the differacnes are minima...

Yes - on occasion i also try out an OLD OLD live cd with the old xchats and am amazed at whats been trimmed out. For the most part it seems most disrtos these days include a rather 'standard by the source, unpatched, unaltered, same as if you got the source from the xchat home page version' Which is...

the 'unetbootin' tool is also very handy. With it and a .iso file you can make a bootable thumbdrive in just a few min. I also have an Acer Aspire One. I had good luck with the Specilized AAO Puppy variant. Ive not tested 4.20 out very much on the AAO yet. (the wife took it) Unetbootin homepage http...

Speaking of streamtuner.. which DOES work in a 'normal 4.20' puppy now for me. I noticed that on some other disrtos the program does not work with shoutcast due to shoutcast changing their web site. Streamtuner needs to use the 'classic' web site. Im curious as to how this got fixed in puppy ...

I seem to Live on irc. :) So everyone come join us. http://drop.io/dr_willis Has a rather long (20 min) of what i did to install Puppy on a single hard drive In virtualbox. The fundamentals of it still apply to installing on a 'real' machine.
