no sound on Compaq Presario 1245 laptop

I have identified the onboard sound as ESS1869. I have run through the ALSA wizard and have had no success. The configuration say...

CatDude Thanks for the help. I found the section about the timeout, but nothing that says default. I copied my boot grub menu.lst information below. # GRUB configuration file '/boot/grub/menu.lst'. # generated by 'grubconfig'. After doing some more homework on the Puppy WIKI site, I found enough information to try again. I was successful in getting it to install to the hard drive although it took a couple attempts. I realized I needed to go through Puppy Universal Installer (PUI) to do more work. Then, I was able to go th...

Is there a link to installing Puppy 4.1 retro to the hard drive and completely boots from the hard drive on a machine that does not have Windows and never will on it? How does one modify the MBR? Where do we get to the commands to work with the GRUB? I used a Live CD and followed what seemed to be t...

I just did a fresh install of Puppy 4.1 retro and reinstalled wine. As soon as that was done, I mounted the CD-ROM drive and checked the wine config and there was only a c: and z: drive listed. I did notice that after wine installed, I did get a notification that portions of wine did not install or ...

Thanks...I think. I am way too much of a newbie to even understand what you are trying to communicate. The information you provided...what do I do with it? Is there some sort of screen capture or diagnostic program that I can run and post results from? I double checked everything in my BIOS and it a...

Thanks for the responses. Initially, I did not have a drive letter other than C: and Z:. I created one for my cdrom - drive D:/mnt/hdc/ HDC is the designated code I get when I mount my cd rom drive. Not sure why, but that is what it is in the mounting area. That didn't do anything different. I then ...

Sound card not working
I have a Compaq Presario 1245 laptop that has a ESS1869 sound 'card' installed. I am assuming it is a card and not built-in. I am assuming it is an ESS1869 since that is what the online specs for that computer say it is. Before I loaded Puppy on it, it had Windowns 98 and the sound worked. Ever sinc...

Problems with Wine and Puppy 4.0
Hello. I managed to sucessfully load wine onto my laptop (Compaq Presario 1245) and install an old game called Lords of Magic. I simply used that game as a test to try and play an older game on an older laptop - hence my use of Puppy 4.0. The game installed and I can get it to run - to a point. Howe...
