Hi all! I've not checked in for a long time as Linux Mint is my main distro nowadays, but I've always had a soft spot for Puppy as it's where I first dove in when I started tinkering with Linux. :) Just curious if anybody knows whether there is a later (the current LTS 16.04 maybe?) Ubuntu-based Pu...

Ah, thanks Watchdog - didn't know those were the latest 'official' versions under development. :)

Any idea how long until they are released?

Will have to download and try them out in a VM!

Long time, no see!

Hey all! I haven't been here in a LONG time - life gets in the way sadly. :) Linux Mint is my main distro these days, but I've always kept my eye on Puppy once and awhile as it was really where my tinkering with Linux had a start. That being said, I've noticed progress on a "main", "o...

There is no VESA driver....unless you mean the one that says "Nomodeset" - is that the XVESA driver? If that is the case, I've tried that and I get the same issue.

TahrPop - VESA video rather than XOrg?

Hi all! I've got an ancient 800mhz Pentium III that I am trying to install TahrPup on. I boot from a LiveCD and run the XorgWizard, the test goes ok and properly shows the dialog box, but the second I get to the desktop the machine kicks me back out to command line. I think it has something to do wi...

Hi PeeBee, Well, I have thought about updating to Puppy Precise in the last while, so I may have to give it a try! Currently I am running a full install of Lucid on a machine that is a little older (1.6ghz Pentium 4, 768mbs of RAM, 10gb HDD, 128mb Sapphire Radeon 9600XT video card), which is the com...

With Microsoft forcing all MSN users to use Skype for messaging instead of Windows Live Messenger (I am hoping they will still allow 3rd party clients as I love Pidgin!), I figured it was time to update Skype on my Linux box as well. I'm running the latest version of Lucid and downloaded this sfs an...

Thanks RSH - I actually knew that, I just was assuming most of Puppy's lighter apps were compatible with both and also, to use your example, most WinXP programs will work in Vista or Win7, so I was also assuming that Puppy would be backwards compatible as well :) Any examples of apps that won't work...

Won't run most Lucid software? Hmmm...most of the programs I have installed are fairly common and I got a lot of them from the forums. I thought Precise and Lucid were both able to read Ubuntu packages? That's where some of the programs I used came from... Skype, LibreOffice, Firefox....things like ...

Lucid or Precise for older machine?

Hi all - I've got an older Pentium IV machine with a 1.6ghz processor, 768mbs of RAM, and a 128mb video card. Currently it's running Lucid 5.2.8 and I'm quite pleased with it as such....all tweaked the way I like :) I've been taking a look at Precise in a VM and like it, but I was thinking, would th...

Cool, thanks for the info P310don! Both machines still work snappy enough, I was just legitimately curious as to why they had such a difference :)

Thanks for your replies too Rjbrewer!

Well, maybe so, but I was just surprised that two fairly-similar systems would have such different amounts of RAM usage running the exact same OS/setup/programs - especially considering the computer with less RAM is the one that is USING less RAM... As you say, I expect differences, surely, but I wo...

Same Puppy uses different memory in unlike computers

Hey all, I've got an odd situation with my two Puppy Linux tinker boxes. They are running EXACTLY (other than the themes and wallpapers) identical installs of Lucid Puppy 5.28, both installed from my same, personal, remastered Puppy install. However, I have noticed when both systems are powered on a...

Out of curiosity, are you still doing any updates/developments to 2.14x Ttuuxxx? :)

I've got Top10 running on one of my really old tinker machines and love it :)

@ Haut_Dawg - Just posting to also give me regards - love that desktop setup with the Precise Puppy icons and that background....it all really melds together so well, and I'm a big fan of "dark" themes with high contrast icons/text, so I LOVE it! :D

Just a quick final update to say that everything went well - now down to just my new ext3 partition with my Lucid 5.28 install and a 512mb swap partition! :) All is working fine - the old ext2 partition is gone and the ext3 partition is grown in it's place. 8) Had a glitch with Puppy still displayin...
