Ethernet
Hi Rerwin, I had a similar problem with Puppy about three years ago. It was a work laptop running Windows. When I took it out of the docking station and booted it from a Puppy CD it would only connect to ethernet about half the time. Turned out that Puppy was attempting to connect to ethernet before...

Warping wood
don570 and wdt,
same problem here. Barry's contact page has no details, unless he has artfully concealed them. In Harrison's day use of riven wood rather than sawn wood was more common. Riven wood doesn't split/crack so much but it will still expand/shrink when exposed to moisture.

big drives
Could well be a kernel problem. I use ntfs for my drives as I have to be able to use them on MS computers.
I only mentioned this because you wrote about Quirky/ntfs problems on your blog and I thought the size of the partitions might be relevant.

quirky xerus and ntfs
Barry I have seen some odd behaviour with Quirky running from CD on a 64 bit laptop. Every USB stick and external drive works absolutely flawlessly except when I use really big drives when they sometimes get mounted read only. By big drives I mean 3TB and above. Fixed by rerunning Puppy mounting uti...

British slang
I was responding to LazY Puppy. I assume English is not his first language and was attempting to correct my error of using informal language on an international website. I'm sure that many people in the UK know what suss means. It was mentioned a lot on BBC news reports with respect to the infamous ...

download site
Sorry, suss is a slang word for suspect/suspicious (probably from London). The name of the iso is peculiar, I had to click through four pages for no good reason that I could see. The wording/spelling was very odd. PartedMagic is not free any more, is it? Maybe I'm just getting more paranoid as I get...

That website looked a bit suss to me.

Language for lobsters
Try Python, you'll be alright pythons don't eat lobsters.
It's not going to be as fast as something like C, but it's much easier to learn.

Them's forward slashes or virgules.

Visitor numbers
I used to visit this forum almost every day. I probably still visit it two or three times a week. I normally only bother logging in if I want to post. I've been using Puppy since 2004, I think. In that time the number of anonymous visitors has always been far greater than the number of active poster...

JIDE removes Google Apps from Mini
Has anyone else noticed this? I switched my Mini on for the first time in months and the upgraded OS has lost Google Apps. There are workarounds (which I haven't tried yet) but this does rather take the shine off a nice little gadget. I hadn't used it for a while as I needed access to an HDMI monito...

KVM and Underdog are different
I think KVM is slightly different. Underdog can use applications from the underlying Linux filesystem, so it can be a very lightweight environment. I assume KVM can access files in an external filesystem, but I wouldn't expect it to necessarily be able to run the applications. Anyway, let's see what...

Underdog revived
Barry Kauler has announced that he is working on Underdog again. I always thought this was a good idea, but I think initial development may have stalled because of dependancy problems. What I don't understand is why it was called Underdog. Since it sits on top of the existing installed Linux filesys...

Grouchy old user
Ignore me. Once upon a time I could keep up by reading Barry's original blog. Then, when people started making derivatives, you could keep up by reading the Murga forum as well. Now there is a third site to consult. Nothing wrong with any of that, but this is the first time I have spotted a new offi...
