I have gone back and installed every .pet from that directory and rechecked all dependencies. Python-2.5.2.pet says missing /usr/lib/libtk8.5.so and /usr/lib/libtcl8.5.so Normally I would assume there is another lib in /usr/lib/ I can link to, but this time there are no matches to libtk*, libtcl*. I...

I did read the hplip README file. It does not mention the dependencies .pet, so it seems reasonable to assume based on its relative size and name, that it contains all dependencies for the hplip package. Specifically it doesn't mention that python in hplip_dependencies.pet is not complete (it seems ...

This solved it. FYI, manual sync is not needed since linux must sync prior to unmounting a filesystem, and / is unmounted during shutdown. Maybe shutdown isn't required, but it's fast enough with Puppy!

[solved] devx_400.sfs installed, not loaded?

I wanted to have gcc and all the necessary dev files so I downloaded devx_400.sfs. It is here, in my / (root, not to be confused with /root): -rwx------ 1 root root 81260544 2008-07-31 20:56 devx_400.sfs I rebooted but it wasn't loaded. What I read said that if I have a full install (I have a dedica...

petget installation errors normal? & python errors

Puppy 4.00, petget, and .pet's for 4.00 I wanted to install hplip so I downloaded the .pet for that and the dependencies. I ran petget and selected the dependencies first. It must have thrown 200 lines of errors to the console, but then it popped up a window claiming success! I did the same for hpli...

I read your thread. It made sense, but left me unable to completely figure it out myself. # cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec Codec: Realtek ALC662 rev1 So I check the list and see: ALC662 3stack-dig 3-stack (2-channel) with SPDIF 3stack-6ch 3-stack (6-channel) 3stack-6ch-dig 3-stack (6-ch...

3dmatrix, can I continue your thread to get the same help? I read your thread and the linked HOWTO thread. They made sense, but left me unable to figure it out myself. # cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec Codec: Realtek ALC662 rev1 So I check the list and see: ALC662 3stack-dig 3-stack (2-c...

Okay, I'm very ignorant of grub usage, but I figured this out. I noticed that when Suse installed a patched/updated kernel that my Puppy grub boot options changed. Instead of vmlinuz it wanted to boot with the newly installed Suse kernel. So I new it was using the /dev/hda4/boot/vmlinuz instead of t...

I have modified menu.lst and run the find command. The result of: find /boot/marker is: hd(0,2) Puppy is on /dev/hda3 and Suse is on /dev/hda4 /boot/marker is on /dev/hda3 but the /boot/grub/menu.lst being used is on /dev/hda4 I hope that information is of use to you. I'm not ready to become a beta ...

Boot off the Live CD and mount sda3. Can you find the file /boot/vmlinuz? Yes Reboot off your hard drive. When the GRUB menu comes up, press the 'c' key to get the GRUB command prompt. Type the command: find /boot/marker GRUB will search for the file that you just created. Where does it find it? Fa...

Your menu.lst entry for Puppy is scrambled. If Puppy is actually installed in sda3, the entry should be title Puppy root (hd0,2) kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 ro vga=normal Note the use of (hd0,2). Also, a full install does not need the initrd line. It is only required by a frugal install. So...

Let's take it from the beginning. Alright, that's what I expected. 1. When you attempt to boot your full install, do you in fact come to the Puppy desktop? Yes. 2. Boot from the live-CD, open an rxvt terminal window. Issue the command uname -a and paste here the output (I want to know if he's using...

Please, I'm interested in making Puppy my full-time OS. Frugal seems like what one would use to either 1) to share a computer with another OS that isn't friendly (we all know who that would be) or 2) to be frugal where resources are scarce. I don't see a reason to do this because 1) I will not have ...

muggins, I did a full install (I thought it was clear by saying I devoted a full ext3 partition to it) but all the drivers are available. The problem is that Puppy says I have no hardware to detect. I try the connect wizard and it says no network hardware is detected on the machine. I tell it to loa...

[solved] Puppy ok on CD, DOA on HD

Be gentle. I'm new. I tried Puppy 4.00 on a LiveCD and I really liked it. It was pretty good and it got my network up with no fuss. It looked okay and best of all it was very small and fast. I installed it on my HDD as a full ext3 partition and it seemed to run great but I couldn't get sound working...
