Great, thanks! This works, but now no matter in which order I put the two commands, the mediaplayer dialog box is always on top of Viewnior. I would like for Viewnior to be on top. Any way to force which app's window is on top? Also, is there any way to force the windows to be minimized or maximized...

Script writing question

I'm trying to write a very simple executable script and have a question. I need to call up defaultmediaplayer and also viewnior viewer in the same script. The problem is that as soon as the first app is brought up, the script apparently has to wait until the first one is exited before the second one...

Mick,
Is fsck something that should be run periodically as a preventive measure?

Is there some kind of "manual" for writing widgets?

Mick, I wasn't sure what you wanted me to do. If I boot to pfix=ram, i have no access to my home directory where the save file is, so what I did was not reboot, but ran fsck in mnt/home directory in rox as you described. I did have to respond to quite a few errors. When it was finished, I did reboot...

Mick, To your questions: 1. The widget itself seems to be working fine; updating, has text, etc. Just no icons (both weatherx's). 2. I boot with live cd, so basically frugal, save file on my Widows partition. 3.. I had not updated imlib2, but I just now did, using petget to install the package (than...

Micko, Sorry to report that the Weatherx icons are gone again. When you first posted the extras 2.3 package, I installed it and the icons worked fine, but now they have disappeared in both instances. I even tried uninstall/reinstall both the Pwidgets and the extras package and even manually deleted ...

The forum for future updates of 5.1.1 is, I guess, the forum for 5.2 at: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=60702 Noted. Thanks. This particular thing doesn't really bother me that much because I'm aware of it, but now that Puppy is getting more and more interest among new Linux users...

Is there a forum for user suggestions for future versions (not bugs)? I would like to suggest a change in the way the "Setup" menus are offered. It's always been somewhat confusing that there are two different selections called "Setup"; one in the Start menu at the tray and one o...

Benign, Thanks for the tip. This kind of stuff can really come in handy sometimes. disciple, Disciple, even though I now don't need to access startup modules or changing their configurations, this would be a good thing to have, so I think I'll start a new thread about that. Maybe it's been left out ...

If it aint broke don't fix it! That's my motto as well, although I seem to forget it sometimes and end up breaking it anyway... I hate to do this to you, but now that this one seems to be solved, may I bring up another problem that's been bugging me forever? Do you know anything about Calendar? The...

Micko, Whoopie! Downloaded the new extras package and it works like a charm. So far, anyway, lol. I love having two instances of both weather and weatherx. Thank you for all the work. I'm happy now. Thanks for the pet; many of us users depend on them, being a little .tar challenged... Is there still...

Okay guys, thanks so much for the advice. I really thought that I had disabled the old card previously, but I hadn't. Disabling it in bios did the trick., so your theory is right. This shows how not doing that when you install something new can come back to bite you. Disciple, even though I now don'...

Thanks for the info and link. Now I understand much better. I'm trying to conserve savefile space and I don't want to bump it up past 512 if it's not necessary. Not so concerned about hard drive space, though.

This is such a great system...

ALSA config is not saving changes

I have a problem with my father's computer. His XP is causing all kinds of problems and I'm converting him to Lupu 5.1.1 (frugal). His internal sound card died a while back so I installed a USB sound card for both speakers and mic. This was fine on Windows, but now I had to run alsa conf (the ALSA w...

Ron I dare say you downloaded and installed the pwidgets-extras package as well. Those icons are used in the WeatherX widget, which works essentially the same as Weather, but the big difference is an updated conky that can display images on screen. At the moment it doesn't support 2 instances and a...

What is initrd?

Something I don't understand about the filesystem is what initrd is and how is it used and is it part of the personal storage space. Specifically, I'm trying to uninstall Seamonkey in 5.1.1 which was previously installed through the Package Manager. It seems to uninstall okay, but in searching the f...
