Puppy has been working great on this computer. I have some questions and a suggestion. Question: It seems like the vanilla Puppy install gives me root access with no password protection. Yet I have read comments online saying: "Never log in as root" or something to that effect. Is Puppy vu...

I was using lupu501, and just upgraded to lupu510, with much better results. Looks like that was the ticket.

No. That seems to be the hitch. From the Puppy desktop, I go Menu -> System -> System Status and Config -> CUPS Manage Printing The first page that comes up has a link for "Adding printers and classes." I click on that, and then on "Add Printer." What comes up is a list that incl...

Update: I've figured out connecting to a shared folder on a Windows computer. Of course with all of these things, it's frustrating when you can't figure it out, then embarrassing when you do. Apparently Pnethood likes the remote computer to be turned on. But I still await being embarrassed by...

Thanks for that nice description. I'm sure that I am within inches of getting this right. But when I launch the "CUPS Manage Printing" and try to add a printer, "Windows Printer via Samba" isn't one of the choices, and it says that "smb:" is not a recognized protocol. I...

Connecting to Windows network and printer

I am sure this has been covered, though I haven't found anything recent. I've got Lucid Puppy up and running, with wireless networking. Now I'd like to gain access to an existing Windows network, and a shared printer on that network. I've got the names of the computer, the workgroup, and the printer...

I'm using Lucid 5.1

And I learned a bit more. Typing "xlock" into the console, it tells me that I have a null crypted password. I am betting that if I find how this password is stored, or a command to create a new password, then I will be in business.

Screen saver?

Hi. I just installed Lucid Puppy. Is there a way to have a screen saver with a password for getting back in? The "Lock" button in the upper right hand corner of the screen doesn't seem to do anything, even after restarting the system. First time I accidentally clicked it, I closed the litt...

Broadcom B43 works with Lucid Puppy

Dell Latitude 131L notebook Broadcom B43 wireless Lucid Puppy The setup screen says it's a "PCMCIA" device, but it is entirely inside the computer. This is a wireless adapter that did not work with previous versions of Puppy Linux. I booted Lucid from a flash drive, and the network wizard ...

Hi. Thanks for the replies. As it turns out, I installed Lucid Puppy, and it just set itself up and worked with my Broadcomm hardware on the first try. Also, what a nice clean OS. Nice job, everybody. I am quite pleased.

I suggest you could go one step further, and incorporate my modified ssb module into your initrd, and then into your ISO. If you do so, you must also replace the modules.alias file which has been accordingly modified to remove the defunct device ID's. Done! As you have suggested I placed your ssb.k...

after a good workout on the digital gym, I got the card working again. GuyKL, does the new Network setup wizard find your broadcom card at all? Mine gets found, but there is a bug in the way the module loads. bcm43xx needs to load blkcipher_crypto, but this puppy does not uncompress it, so I do it ...

I just Googled "Ubuntu 8.10 Broadcom" and it seems they are using the proprietary "wl" Broadcom wifi driver, so in theory the driver I linked to earlier should be the solution in Puppy for these troublesome laptops - http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=251942#251942...

EditionLocus, are you sure you dowloaded the rignt driver from Dell? In my case, only one of the oldest drivers worked with linux - the one I had preinstalled with XP, not one of the driver-updates. It was very difficult to find the right driver on dell.com. Perhaps you already have read my "g...

Looking through the .inf file, which is mostly gibberish to me, it seems to make a distinction between different processors and OS's. My laptop has a AMD chip. Does this matter to ndiswrapper?

Also note that using lspci, I determined that my card (id 14e4:1390) is seen by the system.

I just tried this. Interestingly, on my second try, I get a message "B43win: Invalid driver."

I am having the same problem. I am using Puppy 4.1.2. My Dell Latitude 131L has a working wireless interface, and the "WiFi" LED is lit up. Opened Internet Connection Wizard Clicked "Internet by network or wireless LAN" Configuration sees one interface, my wired Ethernet. I selec...
