I would recommend wary NOP small. Specially because the computer owner was a windows user. This puppy uses XFCE as window manager and Thunar as file manager. Both are more windows-like than the used in official wary puppy.
Give it a try before giving up:

my sailpup experience
Hi sailor, I have been using sailpup and have some comments to improve next revision. You should think about including a menu entry for opencpn and maybe some other navigation programs listed in the derivative announcement but not in menu yet. It would be easier to find navigating software without h...

thanks for sailpup
Thank you very much for this English version. As a Brazilian Portuguese speaker it was impossible for me to use the German original derivative. Definitely English is the real Speranto nowadays. Fortunately when I visit Berlin in 2008, it was easy to find English speaking natives. With your sailpup I...

Portuguese translation
Hi, 01micko Here you have a quick Brazilian Portuguese translation of Quickpet. I wish there are some more Brazilians here to check my job. I think I found 2 typing errors in basic English text. In: export LOC_WARNINGINSTALL="package will leave you with less than 45 MB \nof pupsave or partition...

jtouso: I also had some problems "not syncing" boxppupee. I was suspecting of corrupted files or damaged pendrive. After checking the memory hardware, rebuilding and reformating partition and redownloading boxpuppeee last edition files from site with no success, I tried to use the first ed...

no sound in RC6
hi jemimah,
thanks for this wonderful puppy.
my eeepc is an old 701 4GB with no Bluetooth.
i can not persuade alsa sound wizard to find a sound card in my 701.
no problems with boxpuppeee.
Maybe there is something broken in new rev23 wizard that was OK in the old boxpuppeee rev20 wizard.

battery eeepc widgets
Thanks 01micko.
I found the right eeepc pets and now temp&fan are OK in NOP431r1 running in my eeepc701.
Only battery that was a good widget in NOP413r1 is vanished after upgrade to the new NOP.

battery and eeepc widgets
zigbert, I have the same problem with battery vanishing refered by omskates in page 171. I'm running NOP431r1 in an eeepc 701. I did everything you ask onskates to do with the same result: no change. I did not have this problem in the same computer with NOP413r1. 01micko, I installed your eeepc widg...

battery widget
Hi gray and NOP friends. I use NOP 431r1 in my eeepc 701 without any eeepc specific patch. Everything is working fine except battery widget. I think this is the most important widget in a laptop. I had no problem with this in NOP 413. The battery widget was OK. Am I the one with this problem? Is the...

it is not a RAM matter
javier, I am trying to boot from usbflash starting from a floppy using wakepup2. There is no usb boot option in setup. That is why I am using floppy. I am having exactly the same kernel message about not finding pup_410.sfs (my derivative is NOP 4.10 r1). I have 256MB ram. So memory is not your prob...

orion, I don't know how to convince puppy that there is no HD available. In my case, I tried to disable the hd in bios setup but this option was not available. You can try this in your computer first. When I removed the HD, I think the BIOS tried to connect for a while and then gave up accepting tha...

tw296, I thought my Toshiba would not boot either. Try pressing ESC and waiting (a long time) for the message to press F1. If you press it, you will enter the setup. Choose another boot order(using space bar), begining with FDC or CD-ROM (here this is in the first page, bottom, right). Save the seti...

trying to use Toshiba Satellite laptop without hd
A good friend was going to throw away a Toshiba Satellite laptop with a damaged HD that would cost almost the same as another full laptop. I am trying to make the computer usable again. It has bootable floppy and dvd-rom, 3 non bootable usb ports and 256MB RAM. My friend has a local network and woui...

I do not know what philistines means but I would like to know it means thunar will stay as NOP oficial file manager. I could never manage rox properly. Definitely, I do not like it.

battery indicator
Hello, Gray, In case you are planning a revamped NOP410, how about a battery health indicator? I tried to do this using the already installed genmon (http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel-plugins/xfce4-genmon-plugin) but I am an old and sclerotic newbie and had no success. Thanks again for this bea...

NOP will survive
Hello, Gray, I am very glad to know (in Boxpup forum) that you didn't abandon NOP project. When I saw the NOP combination of xfce clear looking with opera and thunar functionality, it was love at first sight. Since then I am following your creative job in Boxpup and LXP but for me nothing is better ...
