What happens if you put root=/dev/hdc1 on the kernel line as well? I'll tell you what happens - IT WORKS111 Thank you Beem - and to the other guys as well! In the interest of full disclosure, I did change the new HD from Cable Select to Master on its IDE Channel. But that did not affect the boot be...

OK, I reformatted the Linux partition to ext2, and did another full install from my (now) 4.10 retro frugal. Again, I opted out of the Grub install, and the file system seems to be present on the Linux partition. Nothing has changed - still get a recognition of the vmlinuz, but the same kernel panic...

Hi Beem, You are correct, except that I installed from a 4.10retro CD using pfix=ram. I think I'll reformat the Linux partition to ext2, and reinstall from my now 4.10retro frugal (I messed up the last time I booted the CD and it updated my frugal 4.0 install. By the way, I'm saving a bottle of Chim...

]full install to dual-boot with frugal Lin'n'Win [SOLVED]
I have Lin'n'Win setup for a "frugal" install, and it works just fine. I'm trying to get a "full" install to boot, but I keep getting a kernel-panic. Here's what I have: I have done a Full install to my third hard disk, which I prepared with Gparted as: first partition = ext3 wit...

Shutdown and Printer Problem
I have found many shutdown problems here, but none seem to apply to mine. I have a frugal install of Puppy 4.0, and an HPLJ5p configured (and working). Whenever I shutdown Puppy (Power-off Computer) and the printer is online, I get the "save" file notice and then endless garbage spewing on...

How to integrate save file from frugal into full install?
I have a "frugal" install (Puppy 4 Dingo) on a secondary HD on my win2000 system. I would like to install another HD and do a full install on it. Is there any way I can integrate the "save" file from my frugal install with the new full install. I have Wine and a couple of other p...

Great HowTo. Thanks for working it up for us. I have an older PC with two HDs - the first drive (C) has Win2000 on it and boots. The second drive (F) only has data on it (NTFS format), and I'd like to use it entirely for Puppy 4.0 and have a dual boot system. Could I use this tutorial, re-format the...
