I ran MCSW and it makes no difference. The only thing the volume control in the panel will do is mute the sound when I scroll it to 0. I did however get my dual monitors working properly so that's a win! I don't know what else to try at this point. At least I have sound and can adjust each applicati...

with MSCW you can select the correct audio pcm device and the selection will be persistent but in puppy everything should work out of the box, we're trying to fix the default audio output device so i hope you haven't toyed with MSCW yet. download and install this pet, it contains the alsa-base.conf...

BuddhaDog, reading the first page, there is a discrepancy in the output of the same command. This Thanks for the tip Scabz. I will take a look at that. 0 snd_hda_intel 1 snd_usb_audio 2 snd_hda_intel and this: # cat /proc/asound/modules 0 snd_hda_intel 1 snd_usb_audio In the 1st example there are 3...

Well, from what I can see, there is something wrong, there should be a 'PCH' or 'Analog' somewhere... all the laptops with a working sound output i tested had of one those strings i'd like to see the output of lspci | grep -i audio Yeah, something wonky is going on here. I'm not too heavily investe...

Code: Select all

# cat /proc/asound/modules

Ok, so is sound working now with that configuration? Also the output of this command is very important: cat /proc/asound/pcm Ok, rebooted into Puppy and now it's telling me that no sound card can be found. I have 3 hard drives with different distros installed, I rebooted again in Linux Mint 17. I r...

I'm not sure if that will work, just try it. Those lines were added to woof ce recently. If it doesn't work, do this (do it anyway, i'd like to see the output): lsmod | grep snd and paste here the output It looks like an ati driver is loaded. If the driver is snd-hda-codec-atihdmi, then you could a...

As I suspected you have 2 instances of snd_hda_intel. What have you got that is using sound via a usb port? The snd_usb_audio module is not normally allowed to be the default anyway. If you are not using the hdmi port and the system is auto-detecting it and setting it as the default you may be able...

@OscarTalks - Here is the content of '/proc/asound/modules':

0 snd_hda_intel
1 snd_usb_audio
2 snd_hda_intel

Thanks Oscartalks. I believe I already tried the Multiple Sound Card Wizard with no luck. I will give it another go and report back. Sound Not Working (Quirky Xerus 8.0 final)

Sorry, this should have gone in the Quirky Xerus 8.0 final section. It's been a while since I've used the forum. I'm not sure how to move it there... I have been unable to get the sound working. I was running Quirky live from a flash drive. Here are my specs: Sound Card: Advanced Micro Devices =====...

Nobody Going Nowhere

From a Buddhist perspective, there is no self. No one can ever be born or die. The thing most people call self is just a bunch of collected ideas, but ideas are just ideas. Everything is just makeup on space. This is not nihilistic, this is real freedom. No worries. You may not agree with this but i...

@Jpeps: Don't encourage me, I'm in trouble enough of the time as it is! Actually, I kind of agreed with her (a little bit) on this one. Thank You Barry

I just want to say thank you Barry for all of your hard work, and for bringing Puppy Linux to the world at large. Puppy has provided me with countless hours of fun. It has also rescued machines well past their prime. I have used it to partition hard drives, fix Windows and save files. Much gratitude...
