Xorg Out of Commission

I downloaded the Puppy 4.00 ISO, burned, and booted it. For some reason, Xorg isn't working at all. I tried Xvesa, which works, but I don't know how to get my monitor's native resolution on it (1440x900). I'm pretty sure it's the graphics card, because I had the same card in my Dell and puppy wouldn...

Ok, I almost got it working through much research and tweaking. I found that GRUB's files are stored in /boot on hda4 (Xubuntu's partition). I modified menu.lst to include an entry for Puppy and I also added a little bit to it. The kernel /boot/vmlinuz line apparently needed something like root=/dev...

Configuring GRUB

I completely erased and rebuilt a friend of mine's partition table for a triple boot setup. The table is as follows: hda1 - FAT32 30Gb (Windows XP) hda2 - FAT32 10Gb (Puppy, extra storage) hda3 - Swap 512Mb hda4 - EXT3 34Gb (Xubuntu) Xubuntu, when installed, installed and configured GRUB to boot it ...

I do believe that Mac OS can be booted (on an Apple computer of course) from an iPod, but then again what can't an iPod do? Apple owns Mac, iPod, and the hardware, so it's only logical that that particular mp3 player would work with that particular computer. Then again, it may just be that the firmw...

I just went ahead and reinstalled Ubuntu from scratch. Needless to say, it worked. Though, I did lose everything I had installed. Oh well. Thank you for the help anyway.

I Broke Ubuntu with Windows

I know this doesn't have anything to do with Puppy, but it's the only Linux community I know, so I figured someone here should be able to help me. Like I did last time (only this time with Ubuntu not Puppy) I erased my MBR, and thus destroying GRUB that resided in it to boot Ubuntu. I tried to insta...

I downloaded it, extracted it, then tried to run it. Maybe I didn't do it right though. I attached a screenshot anyway. I remember that when I had trouble with Java before, someone said to download the binary then use 'bash (whatever the filename was went here)' to install it. I figured that the sam...

Request for Stepmania Dance simulation program dotpup

Stepmania is a Dance Dance Revolution simulation program that I'm rather fond of. Seeing as I have dial-up, I haven't had time to download the binary to see if it would work in Puppy. Could someone try it or compile it as dotpup for me? The site has the binary and source for download. Here's the lin...

Sorry to be late in replying, I have been quite busy lately. School started again. -_- I haven't had much time to play with Puppy either. I'm sure it would be possible though. It would (probably, i can't say for sure) take some registry modifying to do it like you explained, which I'm not the most f...

Well, first of all, the script wouldn't see that my modem was there. So I ran cat /proc/pci and found that there was no hsf in the name at all. The grep in the script looked for hsf. What was there was Conexant, so I changed the grep to that and it found my modem after that. I used to always get the...

So the diodes protect my parallel port from being destroyed by the controller drawing too much power, right? Do I have to use certain diodes or can I just rip out any I find in some device (like an old radio I have in my junk pile)? Also, does running the PS2 controller via parallel port without dio...

Modding a PSx Controller For Parallel Port

I found this really awesome tutorial for creating an adaptor for your PS1 or PS2 controller to plug into your PC's parallel port. Here's the link: http://www.emulatronia.com/reportajes/directpad/psxeng/ I have two questions though. I don't know if anyone here has any knowledge of electrical componen...

Can Puppy do a Dual-Monitor setup?

Can Puppy use two monitors at once, through two separate video cards? I saw a Mac at my school that had a setup like that. The mouse pointer goes out of one screen and into the other. If Puppy can't, will it in future versions? If it can, how does it work? I'm going to set up my mom's computer like ...

Depending on your level of SW capability, best advice is to give up and get an IDE Zip drive. I don't give up that easy. I just found a bunch of old zip disks and I wanna put them to use. They're pretty much my only means of moving any sort of data from my computer to my mom's and vise versa since ...
