RE: Howto for XOPup is needed

Problem solved: In summary you need the developer key, the correct firmware installed, the right md5sum on your XOpup download. We extracted to /media/disk on a formatted usb stick with partition 1 as ext3 and partition 2 as swap. (This was done on another computer running Mepis Linux 8.5 so does no...

RE: Howto for XOPup is needed

We have XOpup-1.0_RC3 on a usb stick booting on Cl1 Q2E45. When it gets to switch root, we get a kernel panel, not syncing message. Has anyone had this problem and is there a solution for it? Thanks

RE: Howto for XOPup is needed

Darn, still not clear. A howto with an example of what should be on the usb and what command to use in order to boot the usb would help.

Howto for XOPup is needed

We have tried to boot XOPup on the OLPC several times with no success. The last attempt was with XOpup-1.0_RC3 using variations of boot /usb/disk:\boot\olpx.fth , etc. Puppy Linux 5.0 is also on the same usb. Is that a problem? A clearly spelled out howto for this would really help. Thanks.

RE: "Lucid" puppy 5.1 not recognizing winmodems

We had the same problem. If you are setting up a dialup computer, you currently need to use Puppy 4.3.1. Perhaps this will be fixed in the future.

Missing dependencies in Puppy 5.1 install

Having all those missing dependencies means Puppy 5.1 was not ready and we have to use Puppy 5.0 instead. I couldn't find this anywhere in the forum and apologize if the problem has already been mentioned.

Trying to boot Puppy flash drive or Puppy usb cdrom on OLPC

I have the developer key installed on an older OLPC laptop so can hit escape and enter what I'm trying to boot. I have tried Puppy 4.3.1 on a flash drive (which boots OK on my HP laptop) with variations suggested in http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Olpc.fth but no success. The same applies to my external u...

Questions for Fatdog

FatDog seems to run very fast on my 64-bit computer. I have often wondered if it was possible to have a Puppy with OpenOffice, KDE, Firefox that would run fast enough on older 32-bit machines- say 400 MHz to 1 GHz processor speed. Once you get to around 1 GHz you can run Mepis Linux quickly with all...

RE: What shall I work on first for the next CE release?

Firefox, Open Office and a light KDE would be desirable. Previously there was a Puppy version like this that was about 200 MB in size and still seemed to run fast on most computers (except perhaps the most ancient). When Puppy suddenly gets disconnected by a power outage, etc. you get the black scre...

Re: 4.3 Beta bugs and reports

Puppy Linux has so far been the Linux distro of choice on older or lower capacity computers because it is small and fast but the black screen of death when the power is suddenly interrupted, etc. has been a problem because of the support calls we get. We do need the black screen bugfix incorporated ...

RE: 4.3 Beta bugs and reports

Previously when the computer went down while using puppy such as from a power outage, our customers got the black screen with no directions what to do when they rebooted and they would call us for support. We are working on a solution for this but having this corrected in Puppy 4.3 would really help...

RE: X window doesn't recover after sudden shutdown

I tried Pakt's solution including adding rm -f /etc/.XLOADED before exec xwin in /etc/profile but still get the black screen. If you want to stop by tomorrow, we will be open 2 PM to 6 PM at http://APlusRebuilders.com . The newly released Antix Linux 8.2, http://antix.mepis.org , runs very nicely on...

RE: X window doesn't recover after sudden shutdown

The problem is all the support calls we get when Puppy suddenly shuts down and they don't see any explanation on the black screen about what to do. I know you can just type xwin and click ignore but they don't.

RE: X window doesn't recover after sudden shutdown

This refers to the current Puppy 4.2.1 but as i recall, it also applies to previous versions. We searched for answers regarding the black screen before the post and have since searched again but didn't find anything either on the Puppy forum or elsewhere. If anyone knows of a solution for this, plea...

RE: X window doesn't recover after sudden shutdown

Re. the black screen, you can reproduce it by turning off your computer's power while you are running Puppy and then turning the power back on. You can get back to your desktop by typing xwin and then clicking ignore but there are no directions for doing this on the black screen. Re. the dark side w...

X window doesn't recover after sudden shutdown

We have a lot of problems when customers have their Puppy systems suddenly shut down and they get the black screen with no directions when they reboot. Is there a way to set it to give them a choice between what they had and something new (or just boot the same settings)? Also the default dark right...

RE: Booting SD card from Grub on Asus Eee PC900

Success! Puppy 4.2.1 was already installed on the SD card using the USB Flash option in the Universal Installer. All I had to do was modify /boot/grub/menu.lst in the Grub partition on the SSD drive graphically using the home directory as follows: title Puppy Linux 4.2.1 (on /dev/sdb2) root (hd1,1) ...

RE: Booting SD card from Grub on Asus Eee PC900

Thanks. I downloaded GAG and tried it but it apparently doesn't have the capability to boot an SD card from the Grub menu. Also there was no mention of booting an SD card in the instructions or FAQ's. Following is the error message when booting the SD card from Grub: root (hd1,1) Filesystem type is ...

Booting SD card from Grub on Asus Eee PC900

We have Puppy Linux 4.2.1 on the SD card, XP on the SSD drive and a small 30 MB Grub partition on the SSD drive. XP boots from the Grub menu but Puppy doesn't. Puppy boots as a flash drive if it is first in the BIOS but we want both Puppy and XP to boot from the Grub menu. Any help including clear s...
