I have been posting and updating .pet and .sfs versions of Tor Browser Bundle which can be installed in most recent Puppies. See here:- http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=91141 Tor Browser Bundle does get updated fairly often, every six weeks and sometimes more frequently than that. R...

Is there a Puppy version preconfigured for Tor?
It's been a long time since I logged in to this forum, so glad to see it's still going strong :) I was wondering, is there a version of Puppy that is designed for privacy, and that includes the latest version of the TorBrowser bundle preinstalled and configured? I've come across something called Sil...

Using small Ubuntu research tool in Puppy?
Hi, I'm wondering if it might be possible to run this software (www.cogsci.nl/mantra) in any version of Puppy? The installation files were originally intended for Ubuntu but now seem to be distribution-independent. However, when I attempted to install it on Puppy I didn't have any success, perhaps b...

Need a driver for swlct-54125 wifi card
i was recently given a safecom swlct-54125 wireless card. i've installed it in windows, where it barely works. when i tried it under puppy 4.1.2-barebones-retro, it detects and selects the 'acx pci' module, which doesn't support WPA or WPA2, which is what i need. i considered using ndiswrapper, but ...

so essentially i need to boot into puppy separately and mount the usb drive, and then run a file system check on the save file? that sounds reasonable. will it automatically fix errors? also, i don't think there's anything unusual going on with the shutdown (power outages etc)... i've tried it sever...

EXT2FS error on USB flash install
i'm running puppy woof alpha 9 from a 1gb usb stuck. it runs really smoothly and well, and i managed to iron out all the niggly detection problems. i was able to create a save file (768mb). however, whenever i install any substantial packages (e.g. cmake), i can shut down but can't restart properly....

Hi what you can do is first take screenshots, so we have some clue how much needs to be taken off of what, next you need to update the list with every dialog box that doesn't fit your screen, Most of them I can change and alter, but I need the names and pictures please. If you supply them, then I'l...

problem with dialog boxes in lower resolutions
i'm not sure if this belongs in here, so feel free to delete it. i've been using puppy woof alpha 8 (i can't find alpha 9), and a long standing problem resurfaced (copied from my post in the beginners forum... apologies for the ranty tone: it was very late :)) i don't know if this is really the sort...

thanks for your comments. the BIOS does accept booting from USB, and when i have the flash drive plugged in, it shows a menu offering the choice of which device to boot from (internal HD/flash drive). but try as i might i can't get the USB external hard drive to be recognised in the same way. the un...

i don't know if this is really the sort of thing to go in this thread - or even whether it is a problem with puppy, xorg, or jwm - but one thing that really bugs me about puppy is that despite being 'marketed' to people with old machines, it assumes a high resolution display. my laptop runs at 1024x...

Ssme: Sure it works. Edit: I mean the Ubuntu thing of course. Just tried it out (woohoo, I'm getting good at this). But note differences: - rename the isolinux directory to syslinux . - the cfg file you need to rename is inside that directory, not in the root. - you don't need to change anything in...

i followed this method yesterday exactly as written and it works brilliantly. the USB install i'd made previously (with the Universal Installer) wouldn't boot for whatever reason, but this version worked first time. slightly off-topic, but as a linux beginner, could something similar be done with a ...

thanks for the info and the links. when i try to tweak the refresh rates, the driver puppy states it is using has the correct model name/number as the one the laptop uses so i guess it is probably the correct one. i checked on windows, and that uses a refresh rate of 60 as well. so maybe this has no...

Xorg looks weird - whole desktop looks greyed out
After messing around with Puppy on various pieces of ancient hardware I decided to see how fast Puppy 4.2.1 could run off a USB stick on my main laptop, an HP Compaq nc4010. The speed is great, but the Xorg display is strange. It looks greyed out, almost like there's a mesh over the screen. Xvesa wo...
