Pretty System Monitor

Hi!
It's cool - there are many options and plug-ins too - I think you can monitor temperatures etc as well.

I will make into a .pup file so that anyone can load it into their system - hopefully in next day or so!

Pully 4.1 with Multi-Core and System Monitor Working!

Hi After reading this thread and others, I have been able to compile the kernel and modules for multi-core support - with everything working. I added the following: * Tickless System * High Resolution Timer * Symetric mutli-processing (SMP) * SMP Hyperthreading * Multi-core scheduler I have tested i...

64 Bit

If you search with 64 bit in puppysearch (see my sig) you'll find discussions about it. Thanks - a useful search! A 64-bit would need a complete re-compile of everything by the look of it! I am working at high end maths number-crunching, with very large data, hence 64-bits, but it looks like quit a...

Re: Kernel 4.1 Compile from Scratch - NO JOY YET!

It is 22 bytes long. Arrrrrr! Either this is an amazing compression algorithm or... Yes - I've spotted it! That file is a LINK, the actual file is at: /usr/src/linux-2.6.25.16/arch/x86/boot I have now copied the 1,666k file, and it booted fine, and WOW, I now have multi core all working! [/code]gre...

Kernel 4.1 Compile from Scratch - NO JOY YET!

Hello I am most grateful for any help - as what hair I have left I am pulling out!! There are just so many posts on how to do this, it is not too straightforward to follow. I am running latest Puppy 4.1 official release on full HDD install. I managed to (eventually) work out how to get the devx_410....

Cluster Computing Using Puppy

Hi Hi I am glad that others are thinking along the same lines as I have been - building a cluster of computers using Puppy. I am a bit of an "old hand" at Puppy! 1. I am just re-compiling the Kernel etc for SMP (multi-core) support (see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=3418...

Re: Please let me know if this works for you.

Thank you! I did a search on multi-core and did not find this - odd!
I will wade in and try myself - although I am surprised that given we are nearly 2009, that multi-core etc was not enabled by default. Even my old old PC is dual core!!

Kernel Compile

Hello I am trying to recompile the Kernel. http://www.puppylinux.com/development/compilekernel.htm Gives details and tells me it is VITAL to copy the .configure file for puppy in folder /lib/modules. But there is no such file here? I am sure this is obvious once you know, but can anyone point me in ...

Multi-Core?

As a quick test, I tried a different distro of Linux, and this showed all my cores as expected, as separate processors. Mutli-core is now fairly standard, so i am wondering how I can get Puppy to see them? Can anyone help?

An easier solution, especially for compliation of progams, is to use a frugal installation which will properly recognize the sfs file. Jim Hi Thanks. I managed to find an old post that showed me how to mount the file in the right place and all is working! Perhaps it should go on the list - so that ...

64-bit PLEASE...

Not that I'm aware of, but I haven't been paying much attention to the derivative scene lately. I do remember someone talking about a kernel they compiled for their own use with a lot of goodies enabled - maybe one of them was 64 bit. But I don't think any 64 bit Puppies have been publicly released...

Multi-Core Support?

Hi

I am running Puppy on a Quad Core Intel processor.

Using

Code: Select all

grep 'processor.*:' /proc/cpuinfo | wc -l
I only see one processor.

Does Puppy support multi-core processors or does the kernel need to be re-compiled with that option?

Thanks

Clusters

Hi Well I am determined to have a go! I suspect I will use OpenMPI and a cut-down puppy for each of the clusters. I let you know how I get on! In meantime, anyone know of a nice multi-core processor usage viewer? Dare I say that Windows has a nice task manager where you can see each core and the use...

Is there a 64-bit version of Puppy?

Hi

I did a quick search, I just wondered if there was a 64-bit version of Puppy yet? I am looking to do some high powered number crunching and need the 64-bit mode of Linux?

Can anyone help?

Cluster Computing Using Puppy

Hello I just wondered if anyone had tried to use Puppy as the o/s for cluster/grid computing. This is where you have a number of hardware boxes, all linked by network, that can run code in parallel (see http://www.open-mpi.org/) - used to tackle NP-hard problems (i.e. lots and lots of number crunchi...
