saluki on an eeepc 1015PEM

hi again thanks for your time @Jemimah @Pemasu sorry for the confusion the lack of wireless brcmsmac was (seemingly) a one off on the second or third boot of saluki 17. the odd thing is I know it should be there but when I tried to modprobe it it came up with some other (presumably related) .ko. or ...

saluki on eeepc1015pem

Hi all, Saluki seems lovely and runs really quick, but I get loads of weirdness, missing icons in the tray, no wireless (brcmsmac hadnt loaded and was missing .ko.so files when I tried to modprobe it), no desktop background, allsorts of odd stuff, all inconsistent on repeated reboots. The most regul...

Now to work on how I make the OS create the SAVE FILE on the SSD instead of the USB thumb drive/Flash card. Which just occurred to me happens when I REMOVE the protable memory from the netbook & boot w/out it .. Will do that when I get back if I'm not exhausted. Just copy your save file onto yo...

edit-- make sure you boot the system first then plug the modem in after I have a mf626 --edit it's a mf627, however this is apparently a Repackaged mf626-- i'm sure and got it to work. think i might have cheated and disabled the zerocd thing, but things have come a long way since then. I'll dig it o...

wireless not working

Just to finish this off. Finally got wireless (actually with 4.2 final RETRO) The last thing I tried with rc4 was ndiswrapper with the windows driver and that failed as well. I'm guessing the problem is somewhere with that acer-wmi thing or the new b43 driver (more later). How it worked with the ret...

wireless not working still in 4.2 rc4

Thanks Dave but stiil no luck. The driver I need to use is b43. I substituted the values and It still wont do anything. b43 actually uses ssb so I'm not sure if giving it preference would do me any favours anyhow - but I tried. Tempestuous -- thanks again, I think that's the link I saw before. I man...

wireless in 4.2 rc4

Well, thanks to everyone for your advice. I think I've tried every permutation of all this, And nothing seems to work. I had a brainwave, maybe this was just a schoolboy error. There is a hardware switch on the front of the lappy, which I keep trying (everything has to be tried twice then!) Maybe th...

How does that work?

And how do you quote short sections like that?

b43, puppy 4.2, persistence

Well I'm back. Think I've found the perseverance issue, although I'm not sure how it spanned an install??? What does nosmp mean in syslinux.cfg? It may be unconnected but it seems not, delete that section and it asked for if I wanted to save on logout. I said no naturally I want it all clean. Result...

Hi Tempestuous, thanks for your time. I tried the b43 to start with and it just gave me the SIOCSIFFLAGS thing. I thought i'd put a long post here earlier about what I did since. Must be somewhere else or not taken, Anyhow, the brief version is this: tried alias b43 off reboot=> b43 didn't load wl d...

Hi Tempestuous, I seen you all over the place in here. Thanks for the advice. I dl the pup and installed it as you said. rebooted. Think I may have a problem--- still got the b43 driver associated with the interface (it's a bcm4318 on an acer laptop). So the manually loaded wl driver found no new in...

Yep, That's the one. I read somewhere that it may be a conflict with two drivers viing for the attention of the module. Did you look at lsmod to see if there are too many mods loaded into the kernel? I found bcm43xx in there and blacklisted it but it still don't play ball. Also found madwifi but tha...

wireless in 4.2 rc3

EDIT.... THIS SHOULD BE IN RC4.. SORRY Hi Guys, well done it looks great. I still have a major problem with wifi. The card is a bcm4318 -- other distros (including puppy up to 4.0) use the b43 driver. I can't get it to work in puppy. I've downloaded it from the horses mouth and cut it previously wit...
