pupget

sum: much improved, with great thanks ... but, as well as catching dependencies, how about automatically (or even, silently) installing them, too?

also, (at least in latest alpha 6) why doesn't remove packages that have already been installed?

dingo to 4.05

although dingo requires manual profile loading on reboot, it works in 4.05, there is NO wireless connectivity dingo loads b43 driver; 4.05 insists on bcm43, i.e., misidentifies the interface . i cant even replace with the correct driver .... so, stuck EDIT: lenovo 3000 c200 laptop, celeron 1.7 ghz, ...

puppy on lenovo 3000 c200 paptop

it's taken some time, and successive releases, but the latest puppy, although still no wireless connectivity in live mode, does work (sort of) installed to HD (bye, bye, vista!). And, puppy is finally remembering wireless settings. i think i just fixed the final hurdle by deleting the default 'alex'...

wireless connection

i have tried several iterations of 3.0, but never able to achieve wireless connection. the final release is a step forward, because now, it is apparent that the security algorithm is a problem. WEP is the only security option available, which eliminates WPA (and WPA2). my wireless is WPA, and i dont...

i have the same long-standing problem with serial mouse ttyS0 is the driver for serial mouse in xorg.conf, set device to '/dev/ttyS0' instead of /dev/mouse or whatever - this will set the mouse to the serial port however, puppy often fails to remember this, so you end up having to do it again and ag...

you guys must surely know that pupget is one of your weakest links .... for a long time .... then, in beta 212, it is even worse! why cant pupget recogniuze dependancies and give you the oppotunity to load them ( it does RECOGNIZE them!) in 212, it seems that evrythings gets removed when you manuall...

you are right, just a corrupted drive

The ntfs-3g driver used in Puppy 2.02 will not mount the partition if it is corrupted, even if Windows did not shut down properly the last time you used it. If you can't mount it, try doing it in a terminal: # ntfs-3g /dev/hda1 /mnt/hda1 and you will see the error msg. update: another way round- i ...

vfat

good point, but i am quite sure that win95 came with lfn support from the very beginning - well before vfat/fat32 ( i.e., in win95b!) but it is just an overlay - you can access all files by the standard 6 letters, then '~', then digit, then '.', then 3-character extension, i.e 8.3 format - readabili...

the term vfat applies only to hard drives - floppies are specifically formatted as fat12 due to their small size. drives up to 32 meg ( i think, pardon my laziness not to do the math) are formattable as fat16 (or fat, in common terms). only to accomodate bigger and bigger hard drives did windows ( a...

no ntfs, or is it my hardware?

long-time user of win2k - ntfs goes all the way back to at least nt4, and was always optional between fat32 and ntfs. ms allowed one-time conversion from fat32 to ntfs; the reverse is only 3rd-party, as per the previous post present system is a mixture of fat16, fat32 and ntfs. puppy202 of course ha...

puppy 2 grubconfig/grub failure on install to harddrive

i have just completed another install attempt to hd drive, with usual result ... nothing is written to grub folder on hard drive, and, indeed, nothing is ever written to mbr of the drive ... to see the problem, run grubconfig in a terminal window, and view the error report - unionfs error, not being...

Can Puppy2 live CD use apps from 1.0.8 on hd?

hi, I have instaled puppy 1.08 to HD; found the puppy 2 .iso, burnt it, and can run it from cd, so i have the best-of-both ... (!!) Barry's description of puppy filesystems is fascinatingly over-my-head, my newbie query is: should i expect to be able to somehow run version 2 from cd, and have access...
