The modem works in Lucid Puppy 525 Retro. As does my mouse.
Cheers.

Running Firefox 11
Thanks, James. I am running Firefox 11 right now.
So I guess it is not recommended to download Firefox directly from their site and try to install it? What should I do when the Firefox tells me that updates are available? Wait until there is a pet package for it?
Cheers.

Firefox on Lucid 525 Retro
Hi all, I just instlled Lucid Puppy 525 Retro. When given a choice of browsers, I clicked on Firefox. The list showed three PET packages, the most recent being Firefox-4.0-Lucid.pet , so that is what I downloaded and installed. When the Firefox opened up and connected to their web site it said I nee...

rjbrewer,
Your post indicates that Puppy 4.30+ came out with an upgraded GRUB, capable of handling the 256-byte inode.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 549#352549
So, is it still the Legacy GRUB?
I guess I will need to upgrade my GRUB installation after all.

It isn't Grub that is the inode problem. Puppy uses legacy Grub by default. Gparted changed in the 4.21 series. Make the partitions with the 4.21 or later Gparted and it will work for any version. Hmm, I am not sure I am following your post. I made the partitions for GRUB and Puppy-421 with the Pup...

It seems I will have to stay with Puppy-431 due to this older laptop.
Has anyone tried i8kutils-1.33.pet with Puppy-431?
Thanks.

Doesn't work on slacko-5.3.1-SCSI-MAIN
slacko-5.3.1-SCSI-MAIN had the same problems as Lucid Puppy-528.004
No modem (no dialtone), and my Logitech optical PS/2 mouse wouldn't work.
Both the modem and the mouse were showing in the HardInfo.

Legacy GRUB and 256 byte inode
I have a full Puppy-421 installation in a ext3 partition, along with GRUB in its own ext3 partition. GRUB is chainloaded from the WinXP bootloader. I just did a full install of Puppy-431 on a new partition. I used Puppy-431 GParted to format it to ext3. I added a GRUB entry for Puppy-431. On boot, G...

PS/2 mouse didn't work
Tried Lucid Puppy-528.004 Live CD on Dell Latitude C840, and the optical PS/2 mouse didn't work. However the PS/2 keyboard did work.
Also had problems with a hadware-based USB modem.

Doesn't work on Lucid Puppy-528.004
I just tried Lucid Puppy-528.004 Live CD, and got same error as Puppy-421 - modem recognized, but no dialtone. Bummer. This is really strange that it would be recogninzed and initialized, but wouldn't dial. On top of that my PS/2 optical mouse wouldn't work. So I guess this release is not a good fit...

Works in Puppy 431 Live CD
Well, I just booted into Puppy-431 Live CD and the modem worked out of the box. I connected to the internet with no problems. In fact I am posting this from Puppy-431 Live CD. I then used 'dd' (via a live CD) to image my C drive to a 500GB USB hard disk with no problems. It's hard to beat dd and bit-by-bit raw data dump for reliability. (But can be dangerous too.) Which version Live CD did you use? Maybe others could post here on their experiences with running on 64-bit ...

WiFi adapter for an old laptop
Hi all,
I am running Puppy 4.2.1 on an old Gateway Solo 2500. I would like to get a USB to WiFi adapter for it.
Any advice on brands/models that would be easy to setup?
Thanks.

Gnumeric - How to have Windows newline character?
Hi, I am using Puppy-421. It came with Gnumeric which is great. I need to move my work between Puppy and Windows. If I create a spreadsheet in Gnumeric and save it as .xls then I can open it in Excel in Windows. But I have one problem. If a cell contains a multi-line text (created using ALT + Enter)...
