When I uninstalled the 260.16 package and then ran rmmod nvidia, the message said there was no nvidia module on /lib/proc/modules (or somewhere like that). Argolance, I didn't understand how you made it work. For me nvidia-settings doesn't work because the nvidia driver doesn't work (it's using vesa actually, althoug I can change to nv but that uses a different screen size - not resolution).
I think I'll try the upstream driver directly as did drblock2.
