Dban - not the ultimate answer
Just to let you all know, Dban does not wipe the HPA or DCO areas of the HD. The HPA is Host Protected Area. These areas are used to use to store data by the manufacturers. Dban ignores these. Forensics people are always interested in these areas, as bad guys can hide stuff there. There are special ...

I have a flash drive with puppy 4.2.1. On Puppy's desktop there is a reddish target type icon. When clicked it save the contents of ram to the file for persistence. On my bootable CD-RW version, the reddish target is not there. I've pulled the Add Icons bar from the left side, but it is not there ei...

X and Y mixed
Hi, I love your new vesion of Puppy. However, the X and Y are mixed up for me (USA). I'm running off the bootable CD. What do I have to do to correct this? At first I thought that I could ignore it, hoping that it was just a "display" error. Thanks for any help. When I saw this distro, I i...

User friendly, well, .........almost
Hi, I've been using Puppy 4.2.1 on a USB drive. For some reason Pup does not save wireless or network settings. Every time I boot, I have to go to the Pwireless, and Pnethood things to get anything done. These settings should be saved, as Super OS and Mint distros do. Boot up, and you are ready to g...

Rescued file from a corrupt XP box
Today I was working on a Toshiba laptop that wasn't booting. Long story. I tried rescueing the music files with Knoppix 5.1 and 6.2, and Slax 6.09, but they would not even boot with this HD in a USB enclosure. All hung up somewhere in the booting process. As a last resort, I used Puppy 4.2.1 and it ...

Can't see other computers
Is there any way to force Puppy to see other computers on the network; like Mint does? I'm using the newest Pup, and still cannot see the other computers. This is using the live CD or DVD. Also, is there a way to get rid of the little arthritic hand, and just use the standard arrow cursor? Thanks, P...

I'm late to the party, but this may help someone
There is a nice paper floating around on the internet. Do a google with the text:
200 ways to revive a hard drive
This is well worth printing off and keeping handy for a rainy day. It was put together by a lot of IT pros.
Happy reading,

See other computers on network?
Hi, I'm a newbie to Puppy, and Linux in general. I'm running Puppy off a DVD-RW, and it works fine, and it finds the wireless internet connection in whatever box I use it in. However, I cannot find a way to allow it to see other computers in my home. Any ideas as to where this is hidden? In Ubuntu a...

You are not the only one who is having trouble
bjh1225 Don't feel alone. I have two machines (late models) that Puppy will not boot from the hard disks. The live CDs are fine though. I'm a computer tech, but don't know much about Linux. I don't like it when someone make "sport" of someone else who is trying. They just don't remember th...

Can't boot here either
I'm interested in how you all help solve Stan's issues.
I have two computers that boot and run fine with the CD. However, clean installs on the same computers will not boot. Both hang at the black screen.

Save file questions
I just started using the live version of puppy - on CD-RW media. How does on save an Abiword file to a partition or USB stick? the drives are mounted, but when I do a SAVE AS, I can never drill down to the proper drives. How can I do this? Never had any trouble with Mint or Ubuntu. Thanks in advance...
