Puppy presentation at Pensacola LUG

Well, I've somewhat recently started becoming involved in my local Linux Users Group . The next meeting I'll be doing a presentation on the uniqueness of Puppy Linux. So here's a snippet from my announcement: There will be an old computer or 2 to show it off. Guaranteed to have something you didn’t ...

First of all, thank you to all who have contributed! Tons keep changing & if you find yourself repeating yourself in this forum then it might be time for contributing to or creating a wiki page. (hint, hint) I used to help a lot with the old wiki although I'm not sure where it went to.... Well, ...

Well the WiMAX part of things are going to be ignored by Puppy so we'll continue with just that for this thread. If you're still having issues with Wi-Fi then please start another one since that would be a separate issue even though its a 2-in-1 card. I'm sure its possible to get WiMAX working with ...

root password

Looks pretty handy although is missing being able to change the password for root or other users. Specifically talking about using the passwd command. Last I remember, Puppy's default password for root is blank and should always be changed to secure a Puppy connected to the Internet. Thanks.

Most of the size increase was just for the DOS zip & unzip files. The wiki page & the included documentation should explain it more. If you have questions or have further development wishes let me know.

Well, I'm a little disappointed that no one reads the messages that pop up directing one to the IRC wiki page which explains the rules & such for our chatroom. I'm investigating what happened currently also.

OK after looking through the Windows driver files for this modem, it specifically mentioned NDIS 5 (upper range) & Ethernet (lower range) which seems to match what was recognized & listed/loaded in the dmesg log. Also I found in the files & by the MAC ID/OUI that Sequans Communications m...

Well, the main thing is we need to find out who makes the chipset for your BM358 modem. Huawei only puts the parts together. If you could go to Menu -> System -> System Status and Config and let us know what both HardInfo and PupScan show when only your vividwireless 4G WiMAX USB modem is plugged in...

Considering the popularity of Puppy, I'd only consider having any dynamic pages (especially if it has search or index functions) hosted with an actual dedicated server or clustered/grid hosting instead of the regular shared/virtual hosting commonly found which I assume we're using for puppylinux.org

Google Talk Plugin update

OK I tried this with Lucid Puppy 5.1.1 & SeaMonkey 2.0.8 and seemed to not work right at first except for stopping the crashes upon loading browser that happens with the regular .DEB from Google. I had only tested it by going to Gmail -> Settings -> Chat -> Verify Settings (which never has worke...

Changing the default behaviour of Puppy is up to the main developer but can be easily modified by adding the boot parameter pfix=ram.

I use pci=noacpi myself instead of acpi=off which doesn't disable as much. More boot parameters can be found on the related wiki page.

I'm sorry to hear about that. An announcement to the entire forum doesn't quite seem necessary for this circumstance but what I've done is change the channel topic that shows when you join our IRC chatroom to specifically direct people to see the IRC wiki pages that include the rules, guidelines &am...
