thanks for the replies :) Flash is working fine now but no luck as yet on the sound. My dvd player wasn't working in Ubuntu so I booted puppy to watch my movie and discovered the dvd wasn't working and that I had no sound. In Ubuntu the dvd started working when I removed the gstreamer 'bad' set of p...

As always thank you for your replies and for sharing your knowledge. I hope I did not come off as complaining that fatdog would not boot from disc. It's not the issue. This computer is not booting anything from disc. So far I tried Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 14.04, fatdog and I think one other (with the c...

Problem sharing files with Ubuntu & Puppy live SOLVED
It used to be easy to just mount one of the ubuntu partitions (or windows for that matter) and copy a file but now I find I can not access any of my music files on Ubuntu, When I mount the partition and click the home folder it shows as empty folder, What's the best way to handle file sharing on the...

no sound in precise puppy and a couple other issues
I've edited the alsa config as suggested here - http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=84945&sid=85249201f83771d8cf053ddd468eedd3 The box is an HP110 Desktop with 2 cards (one is hdmi) Still no sound though. The other issues are no dvd playback - assuming I need some other codecs? and ...

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check out macpup, too.I managed a fix for this mostly by trial and error. I rebooted precise, removed the icons I didn't want keeping the trash can and the save button. I hit the save button right after removing the icons and rebooted precise. Worked like a charm that...

Precise puppy desktop SOLVED
I haven't set up puppy in a long time, lots of stuff I don't recall now. Typically I do not use icons on my desktop at all or very few. I removed the icons using 'remove item' then set up my pup save file. They all came back plus another one marked 'save' right in the middle. Where did I go wrong? t...

The steps were a bit different in Windows 8.1, but I got secure boot disabled. It gives you a code to enter upon reboot to make the secure boot change persist, then I just changed the boot order in set up (under 'storage'). Both fatdog and precise are booting normally from a usb drive. However, even...

thanks for the replies. My machine will not boot from a cd or dvd so not sure making a usb in fatdog will work, but I'll give it a whirl if possible.

Thanks for the replies and the great info. So far, no joy. I tried the legacy option - it does nothing at all when trying to boot from a disc. HP has worked some kind of annoying software magic to make booting anything but windows a crazymaker (so far I haven't managed to disable secure boot at all)...

How to boot a Puppy CD in a new HP with UEFI?
I just bought a new HP machine and then found out that it can be a pain to set up a dual boot with ubuntu. Does the same hold true for trying to boot from a puppy live cd?

Installed Clamav in Racy, now how do I run it?
I'm trying to help a friend whose windows machine has picked up an ugly bit of malware so I downloaded the clamav version in the ppm for Racy 5.2.2 . (This is the first time I've seen Racy - very snazzy, btw) I've looked and I don't see a menu entry for clamav, does it require running from the comma...

BruceB The problem in this case is you think your missing something. Ouch. I suppose you're right though, I'm the first to admit my thinking processes do get me into difficulty from time to time. I did try to change the permissions with Puppy when I moved the files by checking 'allow user etc' but I...

file sharing with Ubuntu
Is there a way to share files between Puppy and Ubuntu without having to change ownership of the files for them to function in the Ubuntu machine? I noticed that when I move files from Puppy to Ubuntu, they come out as being owned by root. I think I'm missing a step or something.
