Updating a full install

Lytefoot,

I don't think you can update a full install of puppy, and you have to install the new version from scratch.

Please note however that I am NOT an expert, just repeating what I remember seeing on the forums at various times, and I stand open to correction.

Best of luck with the upgrade,

E.

Request for PET - txt2pdbdoc [Resolved]

I would be obliged if someone could generate a PET from the attached source. I have failed, probably because I'm doing something stupid, and have run out of time. I use this app to convert text files to a format which I can use on my Palm TX. At a pinch Abiword can save to pdb, but I find the format...

Have you considered a Frugal install?

SAE140, Others on the forum may be better able to advise you, I don't know how to do what you ask. Have you thought about a frugal install, copying your SFS and PupSave files onto the HDD and installing GRUB from within puppy? This would leave your CD drive free and should not affect your Win98 inst...

Yes, Puppy is ideal

cthisbear,

Puppy is perfect for what you want. I put Puppy on an old laptop that barely ran Win98, added skype, gave it to a relative, and it's running without trouble for several months now. 8)

Best of luck,

Thanks to Sir Duncan for the pet, and to Catepa for the command. This allowed me to get unrar running quickly and with no difficulty.

How to get to the about:config page

I am using Puppy 4.3.1, Seamonkey 1.1.18 Click on Help -> About SeaMonkey This will open a new window with about: in the address bar. Edit this to read about:config this should give you a warning about the risks and allow you to proceed. You can then follow DaveVK's instructions. Thanks to DaveVK fo...

Webcam in Puppy 4.2.1

All, I have tried everything I can think of to get a webcam working under Puppy 4.2.1. The webcam is Vendor = 093a and ProdID = 2460 which should work under gspcav. I gave up on it last night without saving the error messages from the make command. I will re-run the make and post these later. In the...

More info please

adk66, Can you please supply a bit more information? How many physical hard disks are in the machine? What operating system was on it? Have you any idea why it failed? Did it make any noises before it failed? If you were using windows, it is possible that your C:\ and D:\ drives are partitions on a ...

Thanks rjbrewer,

I'd missed that inode incompatibility which rules out a repair. The reinstall procedure I have suggested should sort the problem out though.

Wretched, I could suggest a revised menu.lst that would probably work, and if you want I will do so, but I agree that you would be beter off with a clean install. To do this, boot from liveCD with the boot parameter: puppy pfix=ram This will get you into puppy without using the HDD. To check this no...

I wasn't active on the forums when the sticks and stones were flying, and it hasn't turned me off joining. As long as I have the time and think I can help I'll be around. I'm currently triple booting windows, ubuntu and puppy on my laptop, but once I've got everything working in puppy the ubuntu's g...

Can you post a copy of your menu.lst file

Wretched,

Can you please post a copy of your menu.lst file? When you boot from the LiveCD and mount the local HDD it should be at /boot/grub/menu.lst.

Thanks

David, Thanks for the feedback. I wrote the guide with the specific intent of getting Pyro up and running, so I stuck to the basics, and the setup that had been recommended in a previous post. Unless someone can point me to where a step by step guide covering more advanced points already exists, I'l...

Step-by-step guide to partition for triple boot system

Please note: this was intended as a reply to this topic http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=45471 and was intended to recover a system with windows on approx 50% of the drive and several scrambled linux partitons on the remainder. Pyro, While I've never used Wubi this link looks like what you need regarding uninstallation: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide#Uninstallation There is a post regarding some of the background issues and decisions which would have saved me a lot of pain if I had come across it before I started instal...

Just a quick message to say thanks for the effort. My 5 year old daughter thinks it's the coolest ever. :D

I've scattered a few CDs, and will post any feedback here.
