I just figured out the wallpaper problem can be fixed by creating a symlink from /usr/share/backgrounds /usr/share/xfce4/backdrops.

Yeah, I think it is a lot faster actually.

I need a few more weeks to sort out the new XFCE bugs and hopefully akash_rawal will continue to work on the the drive mounting backend.

Then everything should be perfect. ;)

Re: Menu Listing for Scanner?

Hi jemimah & All; I'm still in 021. My HP2400 scanner probably won't work anyway, but I thought I try it. I installed the printer-scanner-core-1.pet, then looked for something in the menus. It usually shows up in graphics. Not there, so looked in utilities, system, and then all other submenus. ...

I'm having some trouble with compositing as well and I think it might be a show stopper for 4.10 until they fix it. Windows with any kind of transparency seem to be always on top and they act weird. I'm debating whether to stick with 4.8 for a while longer. Edit: OK the compositing problem seems spe...

Re: Saluki-22

The XFCE Desktop Setting in the Control Panel will not let you set the choice of the background. I played around with it single image and image list and got it to set my choice. It was after clicking on each several times before it landed on the right one. When switching between the two it would ch...

Yeah I just noticed that. Hopefully I can find a fix.

Re: Saluki

I hope I did not upset you about the Midori browser. I understand you wanted a small browser and it fit for use and size. If they would check many Linux releases are starting to install it as start-up browser. And you are right about Windows, I also only use I/E when I really have to. We can use wh...

I've uploaded 022.

Have a recovery strategy in place before testing this one, just in case.

Do let me know if you any of your disks end up corrupted - I think that issue is fixed, but I'm not 100% sure.

The new XFCE is very nice.

Regarding the default browser - lets not start a big discussion about that. No matter what the default is, it will disappoint the majority of users. At this point there is no good choice for a default. I personally strongly dislike nag screens telling that pop up and tell me what do do (like install...

Hmm I didn't tell distrowatch about saluki - guess they found me. :) I was intending on releasing the xfce 4.10 beta/preview today, but it ate the partition table on my Windows partition and a couple of my USB drives sometime during development and I want to figure out why first. The new drive mount...

It seems like some sort of probing needs to happen for optical drives. Udev doesn't seem to generate any events when a CD/DVD is inserted.

Also I'm not sure how to get audio CDs to show up on the desktop. They don't seem to have any volumes associated with them.

but for some reason the blkid command returns incomplete output when run from a script called by udev as opposed to the command line. I can't figure out why. udev removes the entire environment , including PATH variable. You have to re-export it yourself or use full path to blkid. It's not a PATH i...

It didn't work with the full blkid either. I think udev itself is doing something weird to keep events in sync.

I figured out I can use guess_fstype instead and that works ok. Doesn't get me the drive label though.

Not a big deal now though since I changed the way my whole mounting system works.
