Yeah, you normally set a password when you create your account; the forum doesn't create or assign a password to you. The validation email only activates the account afterward.

Have you checked gmail's server-side folders? I once had to do that with a password-change request from a service, because gmail's utterly convinced all mail from that service is spam - and for some reason, the request was the only thing blocked at the server level before I could see it. O.F.I.N.S.I...

I have changed some settings in my gmail account to make a test of receiving the activation mail. Unfortunately I couldn't test, as my email address is blocked - saying it's already in use by another user. This must remain from my earlier attempt to register to the forum using this email address. S...

The forum software doesn't really offer a way to search for users' email addresses... I had to drill down the list of recent signups. The username would have helped more than the email address (though in this case, the username is pretty much the same as the email address username  ) I activat...

It might depend on whether or not any of the browsers continue to support it after Adobe's EOL date for Flash in December. There's still a lot of Flash content out there that's probably not going to disappear by New Year's. :) Does Adobe still distribute stand-alone player binaries for Flash? Someon...

Yeah, I was going to say that I don't think there's much I could do without access to the actual phpBB installation, especially since most of the changes wanted would probably require phpBB mods to be installed (without getting into upgrading the forum software). Offhand, I don't recall seeing any o...

Re: Problems posting on forum

a. A few weeks back I composed a substantial post, then when I clicked "preview" the text was gone! I gave up! Didn't re-compose. Is the post still up? Do you have a link to it? The forum has a 'bug' where issues with the tags may cause the entire post to appear blank when previewed or su...

I'm pretty sure we still have our old 8-track portable player and reel-to-reel, plus a minimum few remaining selections for each. On the other hand, we still have all our old cassette tapes, and an older stereo capable of playing them. :) (Same for our large stack of records.)

I never had any problems with entering Japanese under the Japanese versions of 4.3.1 and Precise I was using. Then again, I'll admit it wasn't the easiest IME I've used, and I also kept alternate methods of entering Japanese around that I could copy from.

Me, or OscarTalks? I don't think either of us have put together an SFS for Pidgin.

Thanks for the answers guys! In other words, you're suggesting to install puppy Linux directly in Japanese, right? If you don't mind using a possibly older version of Puppy, you can. I don't know if anyone's released a Japanese version of any of the recent Puppies. If not, I may ask shinobar about ...

I'm not sure how well Pidgin supports either Facebook's messenger or Skype at the moment (and Skype support generally required you to have Skype installed, anyway, as I recall). You might try asking Eion Robb (who appears to have written the most recent Skype plugin for Pidgin - or the one officiall...

I used to use Japanese versions of Puppy 4.3.1 and Precise, yes. But those had all of the necessary Japanese support already installed; I've never tried installing the IME and other support for a Puppy myself, beyond adding CJK/Unicode fonts. I'd wonder if shinobar might have more information...

I'm not sure why you're trying to reset/recover your account's password, offhand. If this is your account, it doesn't look like you activated it. Did you change the email address on the account, perhaps?

Seems to be working fine - I've left it running since... probably 3AM, last night, and it hasn't disappeared or otherwise crashed on me like my own build did. Thanks! :)

I haven't tried to message anyone, though. None of my contacts have signed on yet.

I'm looking for a 32-bit build, mostly (the reasons for this, I've mentioned in a PM). If I remember correctly, Pidgin's support for voice and video (depending upon the protocol) is still rather minimal, but I guess it would be better to have the support active. The builds I used to compile had it m...

Does msn chat still exist? Generally, no (which is why I'm wondering if efdeel should have started a new topic rather than post in an old thread about aMSN). Microsoft was quick to end MSN Messenger in favor of Skype and its chat services. They may still have something at the corporate/enterprise l...

Glad to be of some small help. :)

I've been using UPX since... I think the mid-90s (gah, has it really been THAT long? ), when hard drive space really was at a premium. Hadn't thought about how useful it might be for someone else, these days.
