Yeah, you normally set a password when you create your account; the forum doesn't create or assign a password to you. The validation email only activates the account afterward.

Have you checked gmail's server-side folders? I once had to do that with a password-change request from a service, because gmail's utterly convinced all mail from that service is spam - and for some reason, the request was the only thing blocked at the server level before I could see it. I'm pretty sure we still have our old 8-track portable player and reel-to-reel, plus a minimum few remaining selections for each. On the other hand, we still have all our old cassette tapes, and an older stereo capable of playing them. (Same for our large stack of records.)

I never had any problems with entering Japanese under the Japanese versions of 4.3.1 and Precise I was using. Then again, I'll admit it wasn't the easiest IME I've used, and I also kept alternate methods of entering Japanese around that I could copy from.
