tcsh style command line completion in bash

Bash has command line completion but if there are more than one matches it just shows the partial match. Pressing tab again shows all matches and then you can type a few more letters, press tab again and finally complete the match. With the tcsh, pressing tab completes the first matching file, press...

ckx, just Googling around the Internet, I found a few references that the configuration file for XF86_SVGA might be called "XF86Config." Yes, Tempestuous pointed out those files. I tried editting them but couldn't change the screen resolution. If I deleted the 640x480 entries then Xwindow...

I notice above that ckx said his Windows 98 SE runs in 800x600x16. Whoops, typo! No, I can only get 8 bits at 800x600 under Win98, still haven't been able to get that under Puppy. I can't use the Xvesa program because I have XF86_SVGA installed. I suspect there's a setting somewhere in one of the ....

Yes, XF86_SVGA is great for older graphics cards. I think you just need to get your /root/.etc/X11/XF86Config settings correct. In the PupGet version there is an error - "DefaultDepth" is wrong, it should be "defaultcolordepth" (without the quotation marks). If you have "16...

How to set XF86_SVGA screen resolution?

I've got Puppy 1.06 installed on an old IBM 310ED laptop with 32M of RAM, 166MHz MMX processor. The Xvesa Xserver will only display a portion of my screen at 640x480x16. I therefore tried the Xf86_svga xserver and that uses the whole screen area but still only at 640x480. The screen can do 800x600x1...

ckx: Puppy 1.0.8 defaults to a 256MB pup100 or pup001 file, whereas earlier versions used only 128MB. However toddyjoe reports it runs fine on his computer with only 64MB of RAM and no swap. If the sum of your RAM plus your swap partition is under 256MB, maybe 1.0.8 will take a long time to load. W...

ckx: It is my understanding that what mkswap does is "format" the blank new Linux partition, sort of, in other words it puts the special ext2 swap filesystem on the type-82 partition. mkswap needs to be run only once. I repartitioned my harddisk, changed the swap partition to 192Mb. I sti...

MU: It is my understanding that Puppy the first time it is started on a system will automatically find and use a swap _partition_ if present, but not a swap _file_. It says on http://puppylinux.org/wikka/SwapFile Got a swap partition? ... That won't be enough. You need to use mkswap before Puppy Li...

pelokwin, here is my promised explanation/tutorial. My Thinkpad 310ED had Windows 95 up until about three months ago so this explanation is geared toward someone like you with the same experience. I'm having a similar problem aa pelokwin, trying to run Puppy Linux on old Thinkpad 310ED. Puppy runs ...
