@Burn_IT: This YUMI thing doesn't have a menu.lst. @ALL Intrigued by it I executed YUMI in wine. I was only allowed in step 2 to select warry pupp5.X In step 3 I pointed to the Wary puppy 5.1.1 ISO. The USB partition now contains YUMI and the waryuppy files. I can boot from the USB partition and I ...

As my favorite e-mail client and news client have no linux implementations I use Wine in puppy
I made xxx.desktop files for it and they are part of the menu now.
The wine I use now is 1.1.20 as an sfs.

Thank you Rhino for the interesting link. But I added two difficulties for myself. 1 - the connection between the two machines is FireWire (so I need IPv4 ethernet through FireWire) but I start to be close, I think. 2 - My XP home machine doesn't have a userid/password. I may made a special a...

Interesting info, JB4x4, thank you. Your principle is to use a shared printer, whether through Windows or Linux/smb My remark to FBrands's solution was that I didn't understand his concept to share the printer as a standalone device on the network. I interprete this as a direct to lan connected prin...

Thank you GuestToo. Indeed I wasn't aware if the default gateway was set and how to do it, so the wizard saved me and I know a little more now.

Next challange: exchange files between the two machines: Samba/LinNeighbourhood, but that's not for now. At 2:00 AM time to go to bed.

Thank you both for replying. Indeed, I has always be thinking that once an IP was attributed to the eth0 port, connection would be automatic through the connected router. After booting puppy etho was at 10.0.0.1 and I made the experience in XP that the router wouldn't respond unless the IP was in th...

Thank you for reminding me that I have to download gslapt.pup still.
Mostly I encounter this situation to choose, when I find a package directly on the website of the developer and tey aren't in a repository. So I'll follow the proposed sequence.

Can't go onto internet with Puppy

Got my stuff to install digital TV. A Philips ADSL modem multiservices was included in the packages. It's a modem/router with 4 ports which dials automatically to the provider (once correctly configured) After som initial problems I got my Desktop (XP) and laptop (XP) connected. Next test was to try...

So if I understand you well, Puppy is an outsider.
With unrpm I haven't been lucky yet. Undeb has worked for me as well as tar.gz.
I asked the question as somtimes there is a choice of up to 4 downloads possible and I'd like to have the best one directly.

Thanks anyway.

Re: Can't get a connection to a network printer.

It would be MUCH easier to share the printer as a standalone device on your network. Configuration is then a snap!! We do it all the time at my workplace, and share all different makes/types of printers printing from Unix/Windows 2K, XP/ Linux boxes all over the lan. Bob 8) And what are the precise...

It might even be possible to move the entire /root directory into /mnt/home, then you can keep your desktop tweakings between different pup_save files! If anyone is willing to try it... Funny, not longer then a couple of days ago I had considered this idea, but never found the time to put it to tes...

If I understand well, newer release could have to use newer/other libraries or programs. So what worries me is, that when using a pup_save from earlier releases one has to add thing to get a newer release working but the old not needed stuff is still there and thus the pup_save file is only growing....

Ok, I did some testing and found odd behavior. For the record, I was testing with 128MB pup_save files and puppy 210r1. No pup_save.3fs present 1 boot in ram - config keyb, xorg - save to pup_save 2 reboot in ram - config keyb, xorg - copied a test dir in /root - save pup_save as pup_save1.3fs (I am...
