Hi Kocozze - MPD's spotify support only works with Spotify premium, and at the moment support is rather unintuitive. Basically you can pass spotify playlist URLs to MPD using MPC or any other client which supports the custom URL format. Read more here: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.audio.musicp...

Was having issues posting responses yesterday, a couple more: Regarding the questions on the kernel - the specific kernel is 2.6.39-4, and it has the BFS scheduler patches . I'm not sure whether this scheduler contributes to any sound quality perception discussions, but theoretically it sounds like ...

@DenisP - compiling Squeeze Server is possible and I've done it successfully while exploring how to package it. The real problem is the packaging - it relies heavily on Perl and numerous CPAN packages. Trying to package dozens of Perl dependencies together is a nightmare for which I've found no solu...

Regarding the discussion on ulimit - this is starting to sound like a major research project, I'll see what I can find out though - wouldn't be surprised if the defaults are set at compile time for the kernel. I'm pretty sure I don't want to install PAM or any extra background processes to make limi...

Thread has been busy - didn't see all these updates til the other day. @Mark Van de Pas, your post about improvements is appreciated and thoughtful. Regarding Tiny Core Linux, I haven't checked it out. Not that I'm opposed to it and similar Linux variants, but when I originally looked for distributi...

If the mPad author pushed it back to me that would mean he views it as a bug in mpd. The MPD devs are a bit more stringent about bug descriptions though, so unless you can figure out the exact cause and effect deleting the database is probably your best bet. To delete your database and rebuild it yo...

I went back to mpdpup and poked around looking at various process and discovered that about 10 processes not audio related are 'reniced' to the highest priority. These processes like kpsmoused might be great for a standard install because it speeds things up like responsiveness of the mouse etc. bu...

Getting behind on my replies here... @Denis, Sorry I can't provide tons of help on this remote support - I'll need to pick up some cheap USB sensors/remotes to see if I can figure out what's going on. You were on the right track with the udev rules though. Maybe it's showing up as a slightly differe...

It looks to me like ctl value error might be related to alsactl - after you select the soundcard the wizard saves the sound device settings using the command 'alsactl -f /etc/asound.state store'. ALSA automatically loads the asound.state file after reinitiating the sound device. Did you try booting ...

Re: Micromega MyDAC problems?
I've had two instances lately where two separate MyDAC's didn't work well with mpdPup on my igel machine... Anyone has a similar problems with Micromega's MyDAC? Or a suggestion of what can be done about it? This is the first I've heard of a problem like that with this DAC, but the WaveIO has a sim...

I'd forgotten I'd set that up. I configured that console to give headless users a way in to debug if DHCP failed. You're not breaking anything by removing it. I doubt that anyone has ever used it that way aside from myself during testing though, I will remove it to prevent conflicts with IR receiver...

Re: Updated mpd database does not save
Hi all, I ran into a weird problem. When I put new music on my music server and update the mpd database I can see and play the new files in all the clients I use. Great. But when I shut down the music server and start it up the next time, I cannot see the new files anymore. Meaning, although all fi...

Huh - that first link is interesting. The article you linked is basically saying the kernel needs to be re-compiled with a flag to pass IR to the user space LIRC. What's weird though is this advice is contrary to the various posts and emails to the LIRC list from the main developer (the blog I linke...

Here is an article where someone posted some detailed information on how to get this working for newer kernels: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=104541 You would want to follow the steps which discuss using the kernel drivers only. Note I think this guide may be specifying some user-space LI...

Well you can pretty much disregard the user-space LIRC pieces, they're not needed for MPD control. That said they could help you for debugging. I haven't built my own serial receiver yet to do any of what you're attempting to do and didn't include the user space binaries in the builds to save space ...

Most of the lirc documentation on the Internet is out of date, as the project lived outside the kernel source tree until about 2 years back. When it finally did get integrated into kernel a lot of things changed which made all the old how-to information obsolete for newer kernels. Installing lirc ha...

Good catch - I think I ran out of steam as I was testing/integrating non-PHP clients - I actually thought I had removed client175 support at the last minute, but may have been one of the other clients I was testing. I'll need to re-install it in order to create an init script - the empcd script is t...

Ildose I may have answered my own question. Rather than create a startup script, I added the commands to rc.local. It appears to work. Parden my inexperience.. Is this a proper approach? Walter Adding to rc.local will mostly work but is not really a recommended approach. The better approach is to p...

Re: Sound tweaks
From my experience with CMP minimizing threads and processes that are not needed does help. MPDPUP is already very lean, but clearly there are system specific items that can be killed. Alix users, with just a quick glance it is clear we can kill off bluetooth, video, line printer etc. As a teaser t...

My plan for the next release is to move the default music folder location to something like /var/music, and then all the different mounted locations will be sym-linked to that directory. This will allow numerous mountpoints to co-exist easily. Updating the wizard to allow a user to define multiple m...
