What about an option to mount 'read only', that should be doable. You will need write access if you are going to fix anything, (such as delete virus or whatever) This could require a specialised utility instead of Pmount. No, the default has to be read-only, with the option to mount read-write. I h...

I can't understand >> Read Only. >> Why? Once again >> I want to rescue >> not have freakin'dramas. Simple. Like I said, this puplet will be for legal professionals as well as home users. The first rule of forensics is to not change the data in the drive to be examined in any way. No one is prevent...

Caine: Sorry...a horror to use. ...Once again no offense. cthisbear, don't worry about offending. If I thought CAINE was the perfect tool, I wouldn't be here in the Puppy forums, would I? I played only a minor role, contributing some scripts to the project so I wouldn't have to maintain my o...

Just released on Distrowatch.. http://www.caine-live.net/ I'm glad you found CAINE. I actually contributed to that project and am on the development team. I think it's a good tool, and I won't speak ill of it other than to say that it suffers from the same issues as any other Ubuntu-based live-cd.....

Thanks MHHP! I've got init open as we speak. It appears that its in /initrd/mnt/dev_save/ in lupu (and maybe all woof builds). You were were clear enough the first time, I just didn't understand initially. I should have been smarter and search compressed files, too. I appreciate the detailed instruc...

Re: New Puplet Proposal: DataPup (for data recovery)
Thanks for the reply MHHP, but could you be more specfic? Looking over sbin init, I see that it copies the filesystem to the ramdrive, but i don't see where it is searching for and loading a pupsave file.MinHundHettePerro wrote:In initrd.gz_/(sbin)/init

New Puplet Proposal: DataPup (for data recovery)
I am proposing to create a new puplet called DataPup . Ultimately, I plan to build it with woof from a Debian base. I'm choosing Debian-testing as a base because the debian repo contains the data recovery utilities I plan to incorporate at the latest versions available and is quickly updated. This w...
