8172u wireless module
alas, Thanks for your report. It's a pity about the wireless. When I compiled it, I noticed a strange thing, that I could not load it using modprobe 8712u (after having issued depmod -a). The error was 'module not found'. However I could load it by insmod 8172u.ko from the directory containing the m...

wary 5 on gecko (surfboard/edubook)
technosaurus,
Thanks for the tips on compilation. I am trying to compile mplayer
now and such advice is welcome.
The flash plugin (a version 10.1r102) which I put in place of the
shipped one seems to work fine (at least it still has not crashed on me).

ffmpeg and libvpx on vortex86MX (gecko edubook)
@Barry, I have managed to compile the latest svn source of ffmpeg and libvpx. I am not sure how to test these thoroughly. I tried ffplay on a variety of formats (mpeg, .avi DivX, etc) and managed to see the movies with sound. I got some alsa pcm underrun messages on the console, but there seemed to ...

compiling ffmpeg
BK wrote: As far as I can recall, the only pkgs not compiled for a 486 CPU are ffmpeg and libvpx ...but I am not sure about mplayer. These were configured for a 686 CPU as otherwise the 'configure' script wouldn't use the MMX instructions -- even though MMX was introduced with the 486. Which was an...

wary 5 on gecko (surfboard/edubook)
Wary 5.0 is basically working 99% on edubook. Some issues are: 1) There is no rt3070sta wireless driver for edubooks that came with adapters that need that. Instead the rtx2800 module (which does not seem to work) is loaded. If this is blacklisted, then a version of rt2870 is loaded on next boot, wh...

pup-431-edubook update
ttuuxx,
I'm much obliged to you. Also, thanks in advance to everyone
who tests the iso. I'll do my best to fix any problems which come up, of course.
Thanks to Flash and others who made helpful suggestions about upload sites.
Regards,
-pskin

alas, I was able to compile that module on the edubook, and I noticed that a difference in our setups is that I have the kernel_src-2.6.30.5.sfs4.sfs as well as devx_431.sfs mounted. I seem to remember having difficulty compiling modules without the kernel source sfs. I have also been puzzled why no...

pup-431-edubook update
alas, Merry Christmas to you too. I am looking for a place to upload. Several I looked at are not suitable since there are lots of ads/surveys to view before downloading. I will try to email you the xdelta3 patch of the main pup431.sfs file, since that is smaller (7.7 MB) and all of the updates are ...

rtl8188SU wifi drive
alas, You mentioned using puppy 4.31 edubook edition and having trouble compiling the rtl8188su driver from deviceonchip. In case you want to try, I found that the version of the driver at the link below compiled without any problems (on an edubook running pup-431 edubook edition). However, I do not...

Great.
Here's some more good news for edubook owners. Barry Kauler is getting one (or two)
so I think future puppy support is going to be excellent.

Sound problems
As you can tell from the md5sum, the iso you have downloaded from deviceonchip.com is correct and exactly the same as the one you created from the link at the top of this thread. The messages about bad EIP and "lp loaded but no devices could be found" appear also on my edubook, but my soun...

Kevin, Thanks for testing. Wireless. I also had a slight problem with the wifi but found that by issuing the command iwconfig ra0 essid <MY_ESSID> before attempting DHCP, the connection worked every time. Maybe you can try that and if it works, put the command in a script in /root/Startup. xdelta3. ...

Puppy 4.3.1 for Gecko Edubook
Hi Everyone, I have remastered the official pup-431.iso to work with the Norhtec Gecko Edubook. The file that I have uploaded is not the iso but an xdelta3 file (about 11MB) , so in order to create the iso you will need the program xdelta3 and a copy of the official pup-431.iso. pskin http://www.ter...
