Chechenpuppy, as far as I know the only Puppy versions that use the Linux 2.6 kernel are 1.0.4 and the latest Puppy2 alpha. I've been using Puppy2 alpha on a multisession DVD for over a month now and it has been very stable. Unfortunately, the iso downloads of 1.0.7 which I tried where all with 2.4...

Re: Speed up USB-Harddisks
It's interesting. Would you please tell how fast it is now, and how many rpm-s has your external disk?MU wrote:

I find my new Kingston DataTraveler 2 USB drive won't boot either, so that's another one for the list The reason could be that this particular USB drive (not all by Kingston) is rather slow. Check my thread for more details: http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=8033 As a result, BIOS does no...

I tried also to boot from my external USB cdrom puppy2alpha. It finishes in kernel panic. However, the progress is that the external usb device is explicitly recognized! However, after it is recognized, the system writes: TEMPORARY HACK, sleeping for another 50 seconds (dev forum t=138) ... Loading ...

Unfortunately, I don't have info about your stick and it is not that easy to find this information by googling. In principle, it can be measured using the windows program HDtune but I don't know how accurate it is. I am getting lower values than expected if I use it to benchmark my GEIL USB stick. T...

Puppy doesn't boot from the external USB CDROM
Though Puppy (kernel 2.4.29) works on one of my machines (there is still something to fix but it's a different issue) I cannot boot it on my notebook (sonoma platform hardware) from the external USB CDROM (Asus SCB-2424v-u). The messages I receive are: looking for usr_cram on the CD... Uniform CD-RO...

Speed of USB flash memory
After reading a bit from various Puppy sites, I have an impression that the issue of the SPEED of various USB sticks was not addressed yet. I have done some research about the available USB sticks in order to find those which I could expect to boot the fastest. The information transfer rate of vario...

There are so many beautiful concepts inside this little but powerful distro! I am truly impressed and feel that I have to pay back to the Community somehow. There are s...
