I think old puppy versions (4 and old) haven't git on devx, you can try debian package from here: http://packages.debian.org/sid/i386/git/download or compile from source: https://github.com/git/git ... yes, you can boot from usb, but you have to make a big save file (2gb ? ) to load devx and compile

Have you tried xbmc-11 ? is the best player and multimedia software, it has internal ffmpeg and vdpau-xvba support, but it need the vga card driver:
