xfprot
The poster who said xfprot used to work in Puppy 4.3.1 is correct. At some point, a new version of xfprot was uploaded to the repos that does not work. How very Debian (to upload stuff that has not been tested). Sorry I don't have a solution - only share the frustration of the poster(s) having this ...

Misc. 5.1.1 bugs/regressions
So to get past the blank screen at boot up bug and keyboard issues I had to turn acpi off, and now I have a sort of functional live 5.1.1 running. But when I rebooted, the acpi=off setting was not saved in my .sfs. Where do I save this setting, if I don't use grub? The wired network wizard pulls an ...

Lucid compatibility with laptops
Well, I was about to abandon Lucid because it didn't recognize or allow me to use my laptop's standard usa qwerty keyboard amd would lock up at random stages of the live cd boot up. Quirky did the same thing, but then (and this may be a clue) so does Ubuntu 10.04 live cd. No keyboard, no joy. Much t...

I was never impressed with ClamAV as an anti-virus tool for Windows. There seemed to be too much malware that it never detected. My personal favourite is the AVG Rescue CD . You run it as a live Linux CD so you can take it to any Windows machine and it auto-updates itself over the net. Clam is avai...

Re: Lucid Puppy 5.0.1 on MSI Wind
. Also, when I play chess at chess.com, the chess pieces do not glide (uses flash i think); the pieces just change from one square to another. I don't know if there is a fix for flash. When I watch shows or movies from hulu.com or letmewatchthis.com, the framerate seems lower than on xp as well. Hi...

Sorry, I can no longer recommend puppy for linux newbies
So I'm frustrated. I recently tried Quirky and Lucid's live cd's on my laptop just to see how they felt, sounded and played. Sadly neither quirky or lucid would boot, most of the time they failed to recognize my keyboard although sometimes I would be able to use the keyboard for a while during the b...

Same Here
I have 4.3.1 installed as an sfs on my laptop. Wifi was configured to auto connect at boot, but after trying out two live cd's (puppy 5 and quirky) now my wireless settings are blank when I boot into 4.3.1 - I have to reload the previous profile and direct puppy to use that profile. Why do these liv...

Quirky doesn't recognize my keyboard!
So I'm trying to boot quirky 110 live cd on a gateway ml-3109 laptop with two gigs of ram, and the boot hangs at keyboard selection. My laptop has a rather standard usa qwerty but the keyboard has been somehow disabled during the boot process and I am unable to select USA. No keyboard is a bit of a ...

repos and additional software
When a new version of Puppy ships, only a handful of programs are listed in Puppy Package Manager and usually nothing that average users would be interested in or find useful (except maybe firefox). A suggestion I've made before in other threads is that there be a mechanism for updating the list of ...

java diy
Regards learning curve for those DIY guides, I'm fluent in English so that's not the issue. Following those well articulated steps verbatim did not solve my problem. There were no java pets or dot pups listed either. Java, flash, misc. plug ins and a decent set of web fonts plus other basic function...

diy's java install
I don't recall who the original posters were, and because of how this forum is organized I doubt I'd be able to find them again easily. One was a step by step procedure to download from Sun, folders to put it in, symlink creation and all. Another was a script to run called install java. After each p...

wpa support
This is an old issue. No version 3 or 4 puppy will connect to my wpa2 tkip/aes network. Yes, the security keys match and puppy correctly detected my wireless network card (realtek 8185 b/g). I've tried everything, mac filtering on/off, ssid broadcast/not broadcast, changed channels, sat directly in ...

fonts
I found the fonts in both sea monkey and firefox to be horrible. My vision is pretty good for an old toad my age, but anyway I could deal with the fonts if not for the other issues. No Java. Flash - finally available in version 4.3.1, but the resolution is poor and choppy. Still needs work. WPA2 sup...

Yes, some people do use static ip with wireless.
Fewer dropouts (no issues with dhcp lease renewals)
But also because I am sharing printers through my router to a Ubuntu desktop.
