Nooby, the USB stick is T-mobile 530 broadband, apparently Globetrotter , model number GI0431. The problem appears to be the modeswitching. I am getting some help in this thread, though problem remains unsolved: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=402571#402571 Aitch, thanks. I never kn...

I had used the Lin'n'Win method to install the puppy versions I had. Anyhow, have something to report. What I did: First, only moved grldr and menu.ls from c:/ to a temporary directory and restored original boot.ini file (keeping the puppy boot.ini file also in temporary folder) then I used Wubi to ...

Guys, sorry didn't report back earlier, but have been trying to get my USB broadband to work (richard has been very helpful and is working on it), and haven't yet tried the multiboot, as still researching the best way of doing things. I don't want to mess with an install that changes my MBR, and I a...

The first problem is that the HSO mode switcher was left out of puppy 4.3.1. I have sent windowsuser a package to test with. I will include this in my next modem fix pack (6). Richard I got the same result after installing the test package. It still shows ttySHSFO. I sent a PM. The only thing is th...

Hi Richard, Thank you for your offer to help me get this wireless USB stick to work. I have attached the diagnostic files you mention in a PM I did everything you said, but got the same result. It does appear that my internal modem is being recognised and not the USB. I keep getting ttySHSF0 as the ...

Deleting a frugal Puppy is, as mentioned, just a matter of deleteing the few Puppy files: vmlinuz initrd.gz pup_XXX.sfs pup_save_XXX.2fs save file if you have one and sometimes a zdrv_XXX.sfs But should you ever wish to delete puppy and revert back to Windows...if you previously used Puppy's grub f...

Nice one. The problem is though, knowing how, and what, to tell Linux what to do. I never got my USB broadband stick to work ever since I installed Puppy  I really don't want to have to learn new programming syntax, I left that business behind in the 80's, and I thought Linux had become user fr...

Thanks guys, that's very useful. I will let you know how I get on. I have decided to keep puppy for now and to try the triple boot method. I may try with Ubuntu first as it seems less problematic. Just wanted to make sure that if/when I do remove Puppy all that is needed is to remove the puppy folde...

On frugal install of 4.31, touchpad not recognised
Thought I'd post this in case others had problems. Don't know if it's been reported yet. On a frugal install and selecting Xorg for video, Puppy boots into desktop, but only right click of mouse button works to highlight an option(touchpad). On selecting touchpad in mouse setup, there is a need to r...

Thanks for that information. Having searched the web I came across mint4win and unetbootin, both of which gives a frugal install for mint or ubuntu (mint4win equivalent) on ntfs partition of the windows xp. I had a look at the Lighthouse version (very nice though it has apps I won't need), but i ima...

How to remove Puppy to make frugal install of Mint or Ubunt
I would like to remove all the Puppy files, but I am unsure if it's just a matter of removing the puppy folder (where I also placed the pup_save file along with the other 3 necessary files) and the 2 grub files (i.e. menu.lst and grub file) and reloading my original boot.ini file for XP. I had set t...

yes, I did try the pupdial. I got the response that modem detected, which appeared to be the internal dialup modem instead of the USB modem. I checked that the modem is in hardware system info and it does show Globetrotter HSUPA modem, so it's definitely recognised as in the hardware. I haven't edit...

I had tried to do that, but cannot get into the PGPRS setup; the menu doesn't come up when clicked on. and, I think the modem is simply not detected as it gives the CD drive icon and modem name is wrong. I should have asked before if when switching correctly if the icon changes and the modem name ch...

Tried both ways with 4.31 and it doesn't work. The thing is I am not sure if the config file has my modem listed, although I tried those that looked similar. Mine is a Globetrotter modem GI4xx according to Windows XP, and it is a T-mobile USB stick 530. It supports HSDPA according to the box descrip...

getting T-mobile USB 530 stick to work
Hi, I've been looking through this thread for an answer to my problem, but I am confused. I'm sure there is a simple way if someone could help. My modem is USB T-mobile model 530, Globetrotter GI4xx In puppy it identifies it as ZCOption HSUPA modem size 58 MB When I attempt to connect, it says: &quo...
