Let's see, the USA is mad at Russia these days, so they will be looking for something bad to say, and the USA-NSA has been hacking everybody, for some years, stealing information like they thought they were parental-authority, and revelations keep coming out kicking back to the NSA, exposing Chinese...

Hi all, I'm sorry to have started a controversy and not been able to stay with it. I am off for the weekend. But I will provide mre information next week. For the record, I do not deprecate BK, or what he has done creating puppy linux. From my reviewing of puppy and its present situation, my view is...

Physical disablement of devices is the only sure way to prevent remote monitoring, with physical removal being the most sure. remote operation for monitoring accesses are done at low-level and operate in background, so notification information is optional. Most on-screen indication is echo function,...

bark_bark_bark, The quick and easy, and a sure, way to protect yourself from being on-camera on a built-in web-cam is to pull off one of the stickers on the palm-rest of the keyboard and re-stick it over the web-cam lens. This leaves the computer stock and the cam available for occasional use, and r...

Pemasu, Getting back to you in regard to resetting screen resolutions in X in 3981 and 399. I’ve done some experimenting, these are the results: Using the power-applet to change resolution solution you suggested does change the screen resolution. It does not resize the screen to fit the new resoluti...

pemasu, Thanks, I'll try the ppower workaround and post how it works. I have to return to a computer on which I can re-CD the iso to try again. If I can't find an anybody-can-do workaround I will query Barry re the over-automated auto-X (when X-at-install was upgraded to default to 24-planes, so it ...

pemasu, I tried installing Raring 3981 on a headless system, using an iso on a rewrite CD. The install succeeded with X auto-installing to the max resolution. Resizing using the startup window offered option does not work (it never has), so I ticked the restart X option. The auto-install X system do...

For connectivity in free-software installations use ndiswrapper and assign the Windows-Driver to be firmware for the card. CD and DVD drives contain maker-proprietary firmware, as do all CPUs. Since free software attaches to those with no political complaints it should to net cards, too. I would, my...

Flash, This Radeon sound problem arises on chipsets that accompany, among others, AMD C-series 64-bit processors (C-50 and C-60). Current Puppies appear to recognize two sound driver possibilities, listing one as 0, and one as 1. The 0, which is the wrong one, is loaded, while the 1, which appears t...

I have the dropping-to-shell problem regularly on a Toshiba 305 laptop with a slow-spool-up SATA Super-Drive. The drive shuts down when puppies pause, then starts to spool when search-for-puppies begins. With most, but not all, puppies this optical drive is checked before it is on-line and the sfs i...

Puppy "Peculiarities"
Johnywhy, and others interested: Because of the way puppys are put together they have some particularities. Puppies are put together in layers. Where pets are concerned the layers are a bit like rooms, or storeys. Where sfs files are concerned they are like islands. A main puppy sfs is read-only. It...

Is there a way to put a cpu temperature monitoring applet in the tray with the stock slacko 5333 jwm? Or, barring that, to put the temp sensor reading back in the menu> system>hardinfo window? It seems odd that in jwm the sensor data is completely gone. Switching to Icewm brings it back both places....

It is much easier to keep track of what fits into a small core and to isolate problems that may come into a system with parts of sfs-isola...
