3g modem usage in Puppy

At present I am getting on the internet via a 3G modem. Alas I have never been able to use a Puppy to do so. Used to the ease of use with the dread NetworkManager as seen in many distros which incorporates a database of ISPs from round the world thereby simplifying the task of working out what is re...

md5sum

Anyone got an idea what the md5sum for the v10 iso should be? Downloading to a dodgy usb-connected drive and don't want to waste a cd-r. Can't find an md5sum here or on the alphaos site or sourceforge for that matter.

3g modems working with this pup?

Anyone able to confirm (or deny) that this puplet is able to effect an internet connection using a 3G modem? I saw some mention of the usb_modeswitch software which I believe is essential to making such a connection above. If it is possible, that would be done via Frisbee?

wifi wandering

Oh dear, me again, I'll stop now. However feel obliged to report that wifi seems to have resumed its wandering ways. Was just submitting last message when I discovered that wpa_gui had seemingly decided it wasn't happy with the network I wanted to be connected to and had commenced negotiations with ...

cp error

Just copied an iso from the Downloads directory to a USB stick where it ought to have gone in the first place. In the process I saw the following message in the copy dialogue box. The file does appear to have been copied accurately going by the md5sum. Something to look into in your copious spare ti...

wifi, 3G

Thanks for info about not using Pwireless (I never liked it much anyway :-\/) - at present seem to have a reliable wifi session going via WPA. Would I be correct in thinking FD621 can't use a 3G modem out of the box? Couldn't find usb_modeswitch which I think is more or less essential to getting 3G ...

wifi problems eeePC and 621

Got the FD621 on USB to boot following your advice above thanks. But sadly haven't been having much fun with wifi. First used Pwireless which connected on an open network without difficulty. However the wpa-gui icon kept on popping messages about various access points it could see and disconnecting ...

woot! boot with radeon

Just to report I tried the v5 iso on a CPQ laptop with radeon chipset and this time got to the gui, as opposed to test with v4. However X resolution was wrong, 1024x768 as opposed to the screen native res of 1280x768. Couldn't see a way of changing this without resorting to rocket science, or at lea...

X not working again

Hi, just tried AlphaOS on another laptop, this time with GeForce Go 6150 - alas same result more or less as with radeon cards - X Window totally messed up and unusable and no escape outside power cycle. Perhaps a wee look into this? Laptop is a CPQ V6000Turion model, but I guess the video card is th...

radeon video fail

Hmmm, posted this a couple of days ago - but where did that post go? Grits teeth and tries again. I have run this iso (alphaos4) on a couple of laptops with radeon video. In both cases the system booted but was unusable as X was a mess of blobs. Wouldn't switch to a console, and I didn't see a point...

md5sum please

Hi there, having some download hell here, first pass an obviously truncated d/l, second has resulted in a file of 410 MB but then one never quite knows what kinds of MB were those - haven't been able to see an md5sum on sourceforge. So perhaps an md5sum at the top of this topic please? Just to help ...

using 3g usb stick for internet access

Lately I've been using a 3g usb stick for internet access. However FatDog doesn't seem to know anything about these devices - er, to be precise the system knows the thing is there and mounts the fake Windows CD, but doesn't seem to have any gui tool for simpletons to actually get internet access. Ha...

wpa_gui

So since wpa_gui is afaict the only software provided at gui level for using wifi, this amounts to saying the end user has to configure wpa_supplicant.conf before using wifi is possible? Unclear why the usual Puppy gui utils for wifi are not present, eg SNS, or have I failed to locate them?

timeline

Hi Pemasu,

Thanks for your reply to my enquiry about the line of time with your projects back on 12 July - already it seems so long ago :-)

Maybe it could be possible to include release date in the iso title as 120717 for example? Just to help us old folk keep up with where things are at.

exprimo versions

Hello from 3.4.2.2 and thanks for all your work - you seem to be managing to carry on despite various issues in 'real life'. On thing I have been wondering is whether it might be possible to perhaps run a separate thread which records the various versions of your puppies as they appear, a kind of ti...

Delighted to be able to say that the swedish iso resulted in a live CD that boots. Nice work. Only had a brief session so far but it looks as if it will be useful. On the other hand, no need to torture me with news of the 'normal' internet. The original faulty download from Sourceforge took around 4...

Hi there, now have an iso that matches the linux society checksum. Haven't had a chance to burn the cd yet.

The download from Sourceforge on the other hand appears to be bad. That would be the 2nd corrupt d/l from there in 24 hours, so I don't know what's up with that.
