Linux Lite 3.0 on an abandoned eMachines EL1300G single core processor. It came with Win Vista. I have it dual booting. Linux Lite is pretty good and runs reasonably well on this old hardware. I was able to setup my wireless HP printer pretty effortlessly. File sharing to access a Win box was pretty...

When I first started using puppy, it was 5.2.8. Then, on my HP box, Saluki 22 with Compiz worked great. I've been away from Puppy for a while since I've purchased my HP Mini Pavilion with Win10. However, I missed the lightning quick browsing of Puppy, and installed Tahr 6.0.5 on a USB stick. So far,...

I was only relaying my experience, not trying to write up a tutorial. It would be fewer steps than what the original poster described. If people had questions to my posting, I would be happy to respond and give more specific details (links, steps, etc). I would think that most here can do an online ...

Re: Convert Youtube video to audio file

...I just use some of the online converters, so I don't have to download the mp4 file. That's nice, but not as helpful as it could be. For instance, where would we find some of "the online converters"? Links would be great. Google is your friend. There are numerous ones. For starters: htt...

Although an older puppy, I've had good luck with Lupu 5.2.8. It's very stable, and runs quite well on my 10+ yr old hardware. Your P4 is a better processor than this old AMD Athlon XP 2500 single core I'm using.

I have Lucid 5.2.8.005, downloaded Firefox through quickpet. I updated FF by clicking Help - About FF, which will update.

Abiword, which is baked into Puppy, can handle .doc.

I have a Compaq Presario 2195us laptop that is 10 years old. I bought it refurbished off the HP website at that time. I had been using XP Pro on it, but as there is no more XP support, I decided to run Puppy 5.2.8.005 off a CD. It runs reasonably well for websurfing with Firefox. Everything worked o...

I'm running 5.2.8 off a CD on an old Presario 2195us Laptop. I have a 512mb save file. I use Firefox as my browser. Initially, I was noticing the same thing in that I would get low storage messages. What helped me was limiting my cache size on the Firefox Browser to 4 mb or less. I'm not sure how to...

Re: Fatdog64-631 for Acer C720 only.

I recently purchased a Acer C720 Chromebook for $99 dollars after trading in a 8 year old XP laptop. So the first thing I did was get rid of Chrome. I made a custom version of Fatdog64-631 for the Acer C720. It has most of the unused firmware and drivers removed. It uses kernel 3.12.18 with patched...

Best? I think it depends on the individual's needs. I always loved puppy and it's quirks. It has a 90's era look, which is one of it's charms (to me). It took me a while to learn to adapt to it. It's simple and lightweight. It runs great on my old laptop. The speed is incredible. I like how it runs ...
