I use Xenial 7.5 to control my computer's boot selection menu.
I wish to add a new boot menu option.
Where is the equivalent of the old MENU.TXT file so I can make this update?
thank you.
==> It's MENU.LST, not MENU.TXT, and it's in directory /initrd/mnt/dev_save
Thanks.

Wary should work, tho its older
Wary is older but also should be a good bet to work -- http://puppylinux.org/main/Long-Term-Su ... yPuppy.htm
I got that going on my Pentium 4 first, and now I'm going to test a few others to see what else might work.
Good luck.

Thanks for all the great advice. I started off with Wary, and that works great. Now that I've got that going I feel at leisure to try some of the other suggestions here. I think I'll live boot Tahrpup and see how that goes. Thank you all for your help. BTW, I found this webpage excellent direction f...

[SOLVED] Which Puppy for old PC?
There are so many Puppies these days I'm a little confused.
Which Puppy is best for an old Pentium 4 with 1 G memory? That is also very mainstream and standard?
Thank you.

wiak, thanks for posting this. I've been comparing different browsers lately to see which appears more responsive. So far Chromium seems faster than Firefox Quantum, with Palemoon maybe in between. I've been lucky with Palemoon. No crashes on several different boxes. Thanks for sharing your experien...

Your favorite Puppy?
What's your favorite Puppy version these days? And why? I've been using Lucid 5.2.8 for years -- well-proven, many users if I encounter something I don't understand, and access to the huge Ubuntu software repository. I still install Puppy 4.3.1 when I run into a old P-IV box. (I'm guillty of just st...

Thank you both for the feedback. Fred, that link you provided is exactly the problem I faced. I had searched on the forum after I ran into the error but failed to find that thread. Too bad for me... I ended up hacking my way out of the problem on my own. It's really useful to read a thread that actu...

[SOLVED] How to Install Lubuntu on Puppy Box
Every old box I set up, I first install a Puppy and give it control of the disk MBR. So Puppy gives me its nice Grub or Grub4Dos menu at boot time to access any other OS I install on that box. This works great for dozens of linuxes. But not for Lubuntu 17.10.1. Install Lubuntu and try to boot it off...

Does Grub support GPT as well as MBR? (Solved)
When I install Grub via Puppy 5.x to the boot sector on a hard disk, I notice Grub labels this option "install to MBR". Does this option work even if the disk organization is GPT instead of MBR?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Puppy + other distros = Love!
I install Puppy on ALL systems to control the boot menu and for admin tasks. For the cost of only a gig on disk you get a fine admin system. I pick up and give computers to charity and use Puppy for all testing and config work. For my personal daily stuff, I use Linux Mint (version 17 with xfce). I ...

Vote: Do you use Linux EXCLUSIVELY?
Please vote on whether you use: Puppy only, Puppy plus other Linux distro(s), mainly Linux with some Windows, or both Linux and Windows.
If you keep Windows around to run a specific application or for a particular reason, please explain.

Right now I'm using Puppy to shrink an NTFS partition that consumes the entire hard disk. The goal is to make room to install Puppy and Mint in their own separate partitions on the disk (hence the need to make room). After the shrink, I'll install Puppy and have it install GRUB, to provide a menu fo...

Thanks, Watchdog, for the link to your experiment. Makes sense. @rcrsn15, I always use GRUB, which I believe is the default in the official puppies I use (4.3.1 and 5.x Lucid). So, it looks like I should be able to take a computer with Windows 7 or 8 on it, and install Puppy using GRUB and take over...

Does Puppy support GPT disks?
I routinely install Puppy to the primary hard drive of any computer for the purpose of taking over the boot function with multiple OS's on the computer. I also use Puppy for partition operations on the disk. This is with old style MBR disks. Does Puppy support the same on GPT disks? Are there any di...

Does "Round to Cylinders" matter in partitioning ?
I notice that many versions of GParted have a checkbox for "Round to cylinders." By default, it is selected. I've found it much easier to read the partition list output of GParted if you do not round to cylinders, because if you leave it On you get a lot of 1 or 2 MiB unallocated space bet...

Secure Boot doesnt target viruses, it targets OS competition
No surprise here. Secure Boot was said by MS to be needed to prevent boot-time viruses. But of course there haven't been any of those since we booted off floppies 20+ years ago. The real goal was to kill of "viruses" like Linux.
