Wow, this really works, and I'm running it on an ATI Radeon 7000 GPU from the year 2000.

*edit* Although, scrolling pages that contain activated flash elements is now slower.

Puppy and Mint are about as user-friendly as Linux gets but that comes from different things: Puppy from its vibrant community and encompassing nature, Mint from its refinement and emphasis on traditional UI metaphors. I will argue that the Mate desktop (read:Linux Mint) is pretty speedy on some old...

Yes, this seems true.
Note that I'm using retro version, only because it supports slightly more hardware on the target device.

Like all distributions I've tested that use X server 1.14, Quirky 6 on my PC with the Rage 128 card gets unsupported video modes with modesetting; I've only gotten a 800x600 display in vesa.

It works nicely on the other PCs...

It turns out you can easily load this release from an ext hard drive with grub4dos. grub4dos loads vmlinuz and initrd.img just fine, and then debian is unable to find a medium containing a live filesystem. I kept renaming the "live" folder for the sake of organization ( other variants of d...

No, because my primary computers lack the horsepower to adequately test the guest system's snappiness.

What I mean is, grub4dos loads vmlinuz and initrd.img just fine, and then debian is unable to find a medium containing a live filesystem. I am aware of workarounds such as ISObooter, I was just wondering if I could test live-debian with the same simple grub4dos stanza I've been using to try out othe...

A retro kernel is much appreciated; 3.2.48 is relatively new and supports lots of old hardware, I wish more puplets were built with it.
