Now on-line

This course is now on-line and I'd recommend anyone who wants to gain a good foundation in Linux to sign up. You can take as long as you want to complete it and even if you don't want to take the exam learning is always a good thing. I don't recommend using Puppy to practise on for the course as men...

Thanks

mikeb wrote ttuuxxx updated most of the core to at least 4.12 or beyond only leaving a limited 2.12 kernel which is ok for single core non sata systems So are you saying that 214X wouldn't work with sata drives? But from my experiments with a dual core sata system (see above) it did work when I cou...

Thanks Colonel, I'll give Legacy a try tomorrow. Incidentally I see you and Mikeb use hdX not sdX so I assume you are not using SATA discs. I wonder if that is why I am having these problems. I'll try on an older IDE based box tomorrow.
Thanks

My apologies for the belated reply but other things got in the way. mikeb: Thanks but I have been using root=/dev/ram0 for a frugal install. I see you are using pup212. I believe ttuuxxx made a lot of changes making 214x including how it boots. But I could be wrong. Dewbie Thanks for the suggestion ...

I am trying out several versions of Linux including Puppys to install on older PCs that were running Windows XP. These will go to older and deserving folk who couldn't afford a new PC/laptop as part of a charity I help with. I've managed to test every Puppy I thought would be useful except 214X. Thi...

Thanks for that. I saw that it's different from the usual Puppy Installer and IMHO not so flexible so decided to just manually move the files. Still testing.

Just come back to Puppy after a while away. I like the look of Fatdog64-630 but cant find the usual Puppy Universal Installer in Setup to do a frugal install. In fact there is no Setup menu on the left side and right clicking the desktop gives me Setup which is empty. So is Desktop. I checked the MD...

Wanted this to go to the Saluki thread but it's started a new thread instead. Couldn't see how to delete it and start again,
so if Flash can move it please do.
Apologies

How to connect with Edimax EW-7811Un USB dongle?

Trying saluki 22 for the first time and it looks really interesting. However I'm having problems with WiFi connect...the achilles heel of Linux. Using an Edimax EW-7811Un USB "nano" adaptor. Saluki recognises it as Vendor 7392 Product ID 7811. Using the Internet Connect Wizard it sees a Re...

Yes it is. It was chosen because of its speed
But does this version do SSL? In other words what happens when you go to an https site?

i.e. I did what you suggested above and downloaded from that place.
Version I got was libgconf-2.so.4.1.5

rcrsn51 is correct in what he says except I see you have made a 200MB partition as sda2 and this will be too small if you want to put in all the files including your save file. So junk the sda2 partition and put it all in a folder named 528 in sda1. Then your menu.lst will be title Puppy 528 frugal ...

Have a similar trouble. Frugal install of 5.2.8 and installed chromium-15-lucid form 528's quickpet. Typing chromium in a terminal gives illegal instruction although I see an entry in /usr/share/applications and the install seemed to go ok. Next I took the advice of Semme and uninstalled chromium, i...

First not so much a bug, more an observation that may help others. I've been trying to get ooolight_1.0_linux_intel_x86-32_us-en.sfs to work in slacko 5.3. It works fine in lupu 528 and 431 but Bootmanager doesn't even see it in slacko. All came good when I changed the file name to ooolight-1.0_linu...
