doc, i don't know whether the parameters you're passing to the kernel are correct but the general format is, assuming puppy is on hda1, [which is (hd0,0) in grub]:- kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinux root=/dev/hda1 ro vga=normal pci=noacpi, noirq, biosirq, noapic with grub you can also boot then press 'c' ...
