Update: I decided to try Lucid 5.2.8-05 and have found that the "save ram to pupsave file" process does not have the resource impact that it does with Precise. I can continue working with minimal slowdown compared to the complete stoppage with Precise. I assume it must be my processor capa...

Karl Godt & SFR, Thank you both for your suggestions. I have tried both but, while there may be slight unquantifiable improvements, continue to find puppy precise unusable during the save ram contents to pupsave file process. I just do not like having to stop whatever I am doing and wait for an ...

Thanks for your reply, SFR. Code: mount -o remount, sync /dev/loop1 and please report back if there's any difference if it comes for system responsiveness during the save process. I cannot be certain that this improved responsiveness. Yesterday, I had two saves that were relatively quick and did not ...

Limiting ram save to pupsave file

I have Precise Puppy installed on flash usb stick, 1GB of Ram, and typically have Firefox and Thunderbird always running, occasionally other programs. Every 30 minutes ram contents are saved to pupsave file. During the save process, puppy usually freezes because of resource usage and I cannot do any...

Gnupg - cannot install in Lupu 528-005

I am using Lupu 528-005 frugal install on usb stick. I have Thunderbird 17 and want to use enigmail which requires gnupg. Installed gnupg 1.4.10 and dependency gpgv 1.4.10 from lucid repository in PPM. Enigmail cannot find gnupg. I am also using Xubuntu 12.04, Precise Puppy 5.4.1 retro, Crunchbang, ...

Truecrypt 7.1a - cannot open file - SOLVED

Thank you - that was a simple solution. As you suggested in the link to a previous post: in TC Settings/Preferences/System Integration, check "Do not use kernel cryptographic services".

All is well.

How to install LXDE?

How do you install LXDE on Puppy Linux? I have tried on both 528-004 Lucid and Precise Puppy Beta7. In both cases I have downloaded and installed all LXDE files, but cannot determine how to make it run.

I am using 5.2.8-4 and have tried every suggestion to make FF9 work, but it continues to freeze and will not play youtube videos. Unintalled FF9, reinstalled FF8, copied my profile into /root/.mozilla/firefox, started FF8 - all add-ons setup as previously, no freeze, and youtube played immediately.

if it's doing this every time it autostarts, then i would try uninstalling it, & deleting the 2 hidden dropbox folders in root, and starting again. mine only asks the first time to set it up... then autostarts silently... just appearing in the taskbar. (i'm linking the dropbox executable in /ro...

bigpup, Thanks again for your comments. I certainly understand the difficulty of easy upgrades. Besides Puppy, I also have been using Ubuntu for about two years. I admit to being spoiled by their easy bi-annual upgrades - until now. Upgrading from 10.04 to 11.10 has not gone well. An unresolved bug ...

bigpup, I did a complete new reinstall, including reformatting partition, and PPM would update using my upgraded save file. However, I did not have any sound and had a few other problems, including not being able to use LibreOffice, which I had installed in 525. LO did not appear in the 528 menu and...

bigpup,

Booting with puppy pfix=ram worked. PPM can be updated.

However, if my upgraded save file is the problem, what is my next step? Do I need to create a new save file and reinstall all my settings?

Reinstalling 528 using Gparted would be an easier first step?

Thanks for your reply, bigpup.

I did a new frugal install, including erasing previous 525 installation, on a usb flash drive. Then added my lupusave file to the same folder as the lupu_528.sfs file.

Puppy package manager will not update

I recently upgraded from 525 to 528. When I open PPM, click "Configure package manager", and click "Update now", nothing happens.
