Assuming that the computers are completely secured so that USB/CD booting is not possible at all, it may be time to request an alternative from the SysAdmin. One possibility: Request that a computer be made available that has no hard drive (possibly an older/unused model). That way no viruses/malwar...

Puppy Package Manager

Lucid Puppy 5.28.4. Selected 5 repositories; displays only 3 after shutting down & restarting PPM. Rebooting does not change this.

Same in Classic & Ziggy.

Moving configuration window leaves blank areas in PPM window - does not redraw.

question about glx-gears

I understand that glx-gears is not a benchmark, but I am curious as to why my video frame-rate is so slow: # glxgears Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate. 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.043 FPS 300 frames in 5.0 sec...

Re: USB Install - Also Dual Boot

Hello, I am newbie - tried Puppy a couple of years ago and still have it as a dual boot with WIN XP on an old (1999) laptop. However would like to experiment a little further with the latest release. My knowledge of linux remains at the novice level. I have read through most of this thread but stil...

Or just install lxterminal. http://smokey01.com/jemimah/saluki/pets/lxterminal-0.1.11-vte-0.28.2-i486.pet lxterminal sounds like a good solution; is that a good link? I believe an incredibly useful browser for Puppy would be modeled on the mobile browsers currently running on Android. Request: Sticky for "How to use this forum"

The sticky would attempt to answer questions like "How can I select page 29 of 63 pages in a thread without having to scroll through them 3-by-3?"

BTW, how do you do that?

TIA

SOLVED - HDD always spins

HDD-active light is always illuminated whether booting with or without save-file. Lucid 5.28 not doing this. Any information i can provide?

EDIT: Same machine, clean 5.3.1-004 install to manual-frugal USB flash drive. Does not exhibit this behavior. Oh well, another non-issue.
