sfs on the command line
I have a full install where the SFS Load on-the-fly does not remember loading an SFS and the package manager does not know about it either. What does work though, is on the command line I type "sfs_load -name_of_the_sfs" and the unload will occur. Note the space between "load" an...

SFS load from the command line
dcc701, there is a way to run sfs-load-on-the-fly from the command line. Type "sfs_load --help" to see the options. I have a situation where the loaded SFS files do no show up listed in either the load-on-the-fly program nor in the package manager. In fact, they do not get listed with the ...

LyX usefulness
Pelo, LyX is a graphical interface for processing text into proper page layout. You choose what the output will be used for, an article, thesis, a scientific journal, magazine or even a book. You only have to concentrate on the content and LyX with the aid of typesetting software (LaTeX and TeX) in ...

I'll answer my own question here for the benefit of anyone else who might need it. I first used Gnewpet (from http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=75437 ) to make a .pet file of the builtin package so it could be reinstalled if desired. Then it was Menu -> Setup -> Remove builtin packages ->...

Gentlemen, the work that you are doing with this excellent utility is much appreciated. I have used Shinobar's SFS-load on-the-fly (v2.3.2) with never a glitch in Lucid 5.2.8 full install. My current installation is Lucid 5.2.8.7 (Super Lucid 004), also full install. To test the newer SFS-load on-th...

Blackfish, The CLI commands in Puppy are a subset of the full Linux command set. Our commands are provided by BusyBox. The web site for busybox is http://www.busybox.net and there is a good description of the commands and their options at http://www.busybox.net/downloads/BusyBox.html Note that some ...

marlowe221, Welcome to the Puppy forum! As for Puppy being an every-day use OS, it is for me and has been for several years. I use Lucid 5.2.8.7 on both a desktop and a laptop, neither of which is anywhere near the horsepower that you have. Along with the usual surfing via SeaMonkey and E-Mail via T...

Bonjour, Bernard1, and welcome to the Puppy Linux forum. Perhaps you would find it easier to get a pre-compiled version of AutoMultipleChoice from the Ubuntu repository at http://download.gna.org/auto-qcm/ and install it according to the instructions at http://home.gna.org/auto-qcm/download.en . Thi...

LeithR, Printer support in Linux really depends upon the printer's manufacturer. Hewlett Packard for example, has done really well by providing a driver base called HPLIP (HP Linux Imaging and Printing). The Linux kernel will correspond with any printer that you can plug into a serial, parallel, or ...

I wiped my lupusuper4-5.2.8.7-k3.9.9-20141203 full install and replaced it with lupusuper4-5.2.8.7-k3.9.9-20150520 and reinstalled my addons. Everything is working fine on a Penium4 at 2.4GHz, 1GB of memory and a 30 GB harddrive. This is our sole OS on this machine and our laptop. Actually haven't u...

Argolance, I too, have seen this error with my Nvidia card. It means that a part of the hardware acceleration for the card is not implemented in the video driver. In my case that would be the noveau driver. A fix would be to replace the driver with the appropriate one from Nvidia, or the chipset man...

Tallboy,
One that I have used that is both good and lightweight is BlueFish. You can download a .deb at http://bluefish.mrball.net/stable/binaries/ubuntu_8.04/. It is less than 300kb. It does not have its own viewer. You select your preferred browser (or more than one) for viewing your output.

Comcoco, You may well have a family of CPU's which Intel did not make but put their name on them anyway. Intel specifically said that one group of the Atom series, code named Clover Trail would not run Linux. The ones that you have are slightly different but may be close enough to fall into the same...
