Hi Fred, Recently, I successfully converted a short MP4 video clip to a GIF using MT Paint. Fortunately, the clip was only two seconds long, because the process was very tedious and laborious, since I had to perform the whole process frame by frame, stepping the MP4 with frame-step and then using Ta...

Hi OFINSIS, Thanks for the reply. I was using Lupu simply because it was the first ISO I found in my personal archive. I've only recently updated from this myself, as I usually work with old computers that somebody else has given me. When LICK wouldn't load Lupu, I tried Xenial instead, guessing tha...

OK, partially solved. Xenial was loaded only on the flashdrive, and LICK couldn't see it there, but when I copied the Xenial folder from F: to C:, LICK found it and started it. However, it still can't see Lupu. I have located C: on Win10, and both Lupu-525 and Xenial folders are now there. So, in a ...

How do I lick LICK?
I'm trying to use LICK to dual-boot an ASUS X540S. (Thanks for the advice Tallboy) LICK tells me it's successfully installed. I've dragged an .iso to it, and it tells me it's successfully installed that, in both C: and F: (the HDD and the Flash Drive respectively. But... When I reboot, I get an erro...

Thanks tallboy. My /tmp/mozilla_root0 contains nothing, but I'm guessing that's because my Firefox is portable. That little lot looks a bit involved for a bear of very little brain. I've been clearing my history, the problem was just that it didn't seem to clear everything. Each time, I would have a...

OK, now to the overnight advice. @mikeslr: Yes, Firefox is running in RAM, which is where I want it. As you say, if I load Firefox into a permanent home, it will clutter that home with its own save files, history, etc. I prefer to simply close without save and wipe the lot. I've painted myself into ...

Ah! lightbulb moment! I'll get around to following some of today's copious advice in a little while, but for now... When you close Puppy after a session, it saves what you have been doing since last shutdown to a save file (or not, if you so choose). So it must be storing this information in a 'temp...

@ dancytron: I deleted compton.log from /initrd/mnt/tmpfs, but it added nothing to my available memory. :( It's just gone with no apparent effect. @ Musher0: I didn't mean to snub your reply, and I'm really sorry if it came across that way. I appreciate you taking the time to help - I need all the h...

@ Flash: I'll always help where I can, but when it comes to computers, I'm a bear of very little brain, I'm afraid, and not much help to anyone. My sig is a dig at the likes of Google, Facebook, et al, constantly invading our privacy and extracting data from us, often without our permission or knowl...

Thanks dancytron. Yes, it's sorta gibberish, but I was aiming to have Puppy totally in RAM, and if it's not, that indicates I'm doing something wrong somewhere. Maybe that needs a fix too. Is there somewhere where the installation's 'pupmode' is listed, so I can double-check? Most of the stuff in pu...

Thanks for these pointers, dancytron. I've taken a look at each of them. I'm running Puppy live in RAM, so I know that's taking up space, but it's been working fine. However, maybe Puppy builds data up over time and it has suddenly become critical? There is no Save button. I'm using Firefox 60.5.1es...

What's using up my personal storage space?
Guys, just a (hopefully) quick query. I'm using BionicPup 8.0, and on the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen I have a Memory Monitor that looks like a half-empty glass. It tells me that I currently have "1.8GiB personal storage, free space 69MiB". When the free space drops to 20MiB, the ...

Hi, Can someone help me to use this application, please? I'm neither an artist nor a mathematician, so I'm not familiar with the jargon and I can't figure out the formulas. The Graphpaper application has 5 parameters: Box Size, Horizontal Distance, Vertical Distance, Width, and Height. After over an...

Thanks Mike, so I'm running frugally. OK. And Hidden Files are a just-in-case check - roger that. My puppy is set up to make no saves. I've got used to saving what I want, when I want it, and preventing everything else from insinuating itself into my system behind my back. Puppy's ability to do that...

I got as far as 'show hidden files', clicked the eye, but it seems there are no hidden files in the amd64sfs, just a usr folder. I pressed Enter a few times in response to the unintelligible computer speak, and I have created what appears to be a PET package. I also have a nohup dot out. What is thi...
