I tried this on another nvidia machine and it worked the same way. Apparently only a small part of the nvidia install package is actually kernel-related. If you remove the old version and install the new one, it's smart enough to just build the new kernel module. Is there a better way in apt-get to...

And no Systemd.......if it matters...... I think you are wrong. This release is based on MX Linux, which does have systemd - lots of it. Just like Debian - its parent distro. There's a difference, hoever: MX uses sysvinit as its init process and Debian uses systemd. But you can easily switch betwee...

Re: It's official: Intel to only patch past 5 yrs chips ;-(
Straight out of the Sodom & Gomorrah's Santa Clara mouths, Intel has made it official: ".....Intel today announced that the firmware updates and software patches that are being released for its CPUs render Intel-based computer systems "immune" to both the Spectre and Meltdown exp...

musher0, You're correct, belham2 is needlessly overreacting to your posts. You are trying to be helpful, no doubt about it. But your claim that Puppy is not designed that way. You cannot force Puppy to be anything other than Puppy is wrong. Remastering Puppy to meet belham2's needs and expectations...

belham2, Please, stop referring to DebianDog remastering - that's an entirely different animal and has absolutely NOTHING to do with the subject at hand. Npierce's explanation that I posted earlier is essential. Do a remaster with his tip in mind and see the difference (to be on the safe side create...

...The BS is on you, mate. Not at all. You're still using a savefile. Remastering is INCOMPATIBLE with a save option. And another thing - Remasterpup2 DOES NOT create the file you are referring to (this is exactly why the user has this problem) If it doesn't - you can always create those flags your...

I've been using Puppy without a savefile for ages. Savefile replaced by the adrive. I don't get any setup screens.http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=944470#944470 ... Pardon my French, but what you are saying is BS, because your so called adrive is actually a savefile. The whole point...

The current version of cups is: Package: cups ( 1.7.2-0ubuntu1.8 ) https://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty-updates/cups The procedure is simple and straightforward - download and install it together with its dependencies. Have a look at that red dot depends list in the above link - the list seems to be h...

The glibc version in tahrpup 6.0.6 - eglibc 2.19-0ubuntu6.9 was released on Thu, 26 May 2016 01:04:18. Not up to date either and is still far behind the current/secure one:

Thanks 243a. My 605 has ldd (Ubuntu EGLIBC 2.19-0ubuntu6.6) 2.19 so that seems up to date. I will give 606 a try anyway. Your glibc version is 2.19-0ubuntu6.6 - released on Wed, 25 Feb 2015. Definitely NOT up to date. The current, Ubuntu Trusty Tahr version is 2.19-0ubuntu6.13 - released on Fri, 16...

Trust but verify. Run this command to check to see if your glibc is up to date: ldd --version and compare the output to the glibc version of your Ubuntu/Debian release here: https://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty-updates/libc6 or here: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/libc6 I suspect not only trusty ...

Trusty pup has a serious security flaw: its current glibc is vulnerable and needs to be updated. If I were you, I'd install these two packages to correct the problem: libc-bin https://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty-updates/libc-bin libc6 https://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty-updates/libc6 Then, there is an...

kernel version in a .conf file: what does ^ mean?
Help needed with this line in a .conf file: I understand the * part - any future minor versions like 4.13.10-01. I'm not sure about the preceding ^ part - does it mean any (earlier) kernel version, or exclusively kernel 4, like 4.9?
Thank you in advance.
Code: Select all
BUILD_EXCLUSIVE_KERNEL="^4.13.*"
Thank you in advance.
