I think I'm gonna ditch this one and try a fresh install. If I get the same result I'll move this post over to the "Filesystems" sub-forum. As for Peterm321 and rokytnji's suggestions, I'm afraid no dice. When I mount from the terminal I get this message: mount: warning: /mnt/sda3 seems to...

Carolina Vanguard 1.3 mounting hdd read-only

I'm running a new install of vlina 1.3 (which I *love* the look/feel of, btw) on a USB install. I'm hitting an issue with permissions: when I mount the hard drives on my computer(s) (it's done this on my home desktop & my work laptop) they get mounted read-only, and I get "permission denied...

@ Sylvander: my save file is on the USB, and I'm using a new Lenovo Twist; it's loaded with the new Windows 8/UEFI garbage, so installing anything is a *pain*. @firak (et al): I didn't know about the USB power issue. I'll play with saving to my hard drive and see if that works, but that's a less-tha...

Thanks, folks.

I'm starting to lose hope--I've tried the most recent versions of Precise, Racy, & Slacko, but no luck. I can't figure out why it would work OK on the initial boot, but quit after I've created a save file.

Would trying an *older* version of one of these make any sense?

Dead cursor after savefile creation on USB install

I'm trying to get *any* of the Puppy variants to work on a USB install with my Thinkpad Twist. The USB initially boots just fine, with perfect functionality (as far as I can see), but as soon as I create a save-file and reboot, I get a desktop with a dead cursor. I can't get it to move with my point...

I was wondering where the tray icon went....

Anyone know if there's a relatively hassle-free way to get the Aqualung tray icon back?

I kinda miss the little bugger....

Thanks for the lead. I'm running Racy 5.3 on a frugal install, & I just installed the .deb with Petget. It seems to work as advertised.

Thanks, Flash. I'll try the script when I'm back on my home machine. I'm using Puppy on a flash install. I think I've got 2 gigs of RAM on my home machine. I'm assuming that b/c the error message includes a reference to liblame that that's where the problem is. Videos have worked just fine, and I wo...

FFConvert error in MP3 transcode

Howdy! I'm using FFConvert 1.3 with ffmpeg 0.8.12 on Racy 5.3, trying to transcode an MP3 file (from 320 to 128k). FFConvert runs the file for a few seconds, and then exits with this error message: [libmp3lame @ 0x80760a0] lame: output buffer too small (buffer index: 9195, free bytes: 597) Audio enc...
