isolinux.cfg
I want to simplify the installation process for myself and other amateurs like me, mainly by removing confusing and unnecessary options. I think this would solve most of the problems in my first post. The live CD contains a file called isolinux.cfg, what needs adding or removing from this so that it...

***SOLVED***
Which tool are you using to connect to wireless I was using the standard installed tool that you get when you right-click on the network icon on the bottom panel - "Barry's Simple Network Setup". I have re-installed Puppy 5.2.8 using the special Bash script and Chrome now connects. Still ...

Wireless not connecting
I have set the wireless modem to the highest level of security it has, which is WEP unfortunately. I have tried it with both 64 bit and 128 bit keys. I'm very impressed with the Puppy installation of the wireless card on the laptop – it was completely automatic (in stark contrast to the nightmare wh...

Installation problems, Grub in particular
I've already posted on this topic here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=669518#669518 but it wasn't really the right place for it and I still haven't solved the problems. Please ignore this post for a bit - I'm busy rewriting it! Now rewritten - please feel free to post. This is mostly ...

Add Chrome to menu and browser choices
In 5.4.2 Puppy, Google Chrome, which is to me is the most useful program, has been removed from the package manager. I have downloaded the .deb file and installed it, but it hasn't appeared on the menu or as a browser choice. I have tried [alt]right-click on the menu but that obviously isn't the way...

Still no Grub
Oscar Talks ...make sure the Linux partition in which I am installing Puppy is flagged as the boot partition (using GParted)... Good tip, I have checked and the partition has got the 'boot' flag. I tried installing GRUB many times unsuccessfully with 'GRUB bootloader config/simple' (I chose this opt...

Try using Grub4dos 'Automatic' sounds good! I wasn't keen on the 'DOS' bit, as I don't want to have anything to do with Window$, but I have now tried it and it's much simpler than the other one - thanks. I get a Windows/Advanced Menu option when I bootup. If I select Advanced Menu I get a list of o...

Installation - no Grub
I was very impressed with what the last version did for my old laptop so decided to upgrade to Precise 5.4 and do a 'Full' installation this time because as a user of other distributions I feel more comfortable with it. As there was already a Puppy version on the disk, I remembered to type puppy pfi...

Unfortunately, Chromium and Chrome do not support most Athlon-XP processors or anything else under an i686. I've just installed Google Chrome 14.0.835.186 and am using it now. Good news because it's faster than Firefox, runs videos out-of-the-box and is preferable all round IMHO. This old laptop is...

:D xwin jwm I opened a terminal and typed that - but nothing happened. However I have found an application called WM Switcher which is available from JWM and XFCE and works in both directions. I'm not sure which I prefer yet, but XFCE is nearer to my desktop with Ubuntu 12.10 plus Gnome-session-fal...

type: defaultbrowser If dillo is the default browser it runs, but Chromium results in this error message: Illegal instruction Note that I wanted to try XFCE so I've typed xwin startxfce4 and that still starts when I switch on. I'm not sure how to go back to the default desktop - I suppose it might ...

Chromium installed but doesn't run
I have installed Chromium-20-lucid as per instructions. The Launcher points to a shell script which exists and has the executable permission, which points to the program which has the executable permission. I have selected Chromium as the default browser. Yet nothing happens when I click on the Brow...

One-click-installer makes Puppy usable for me
I spent hours trying to work out how to install Grub and when I succeeded, what to do because there was no /boot directory with the lst file and was about to give up. Then I found this thread with the one-click installer! I had found the right answer in the first thread I looked at and it worked fir...
